IT’S HAPPENING!!!! We are ready to reveal our incredible new shelter and program. Our Re-Grand Opening is on Monday, November 17th from 11-1. Starting on the 18th, the shelter hours will be:
Tuesdays 2pm-6pm
Wednesdays 10am-2pm
Thursdays 10am-2pm
2 Saturdays a month 10am-2pm (open on Saturday, November 22nd)
Closed Sundays, Mondays, Fridays, and Holidays
We are also available for pre-scheduled appointments not during regular open hours.
We all love to look at and interact with dogs/puppies, please keep in mind that every time an unfamiliar person walks through the kennel area, it is stressful and anxiety provoking for the dogs. It is also time consuming for our staff. Please, we ask that you visit us when you are sincerely ready to find your new furry family member. We are still requiring appointments for dog/cat surrenders.
Thank you for the patience and grace you have given us so we can serve the animals of our area in the best way possible.

We are almost there! While the remodeling is close to being completed, there are some things that still need to be done before we can open to the public. We are still “opening” on the 20th for pet intake and already have a wait list of pets that will be coming into the facility in the first couple of days. We will post the animals as they become ready for adoption.
We are always incredibly grateful for the donations we receive from the community. We are asking, however, that you hold off on any for now. We have so much to sort through and use, we don’t want anything to go to waste. We also are quite limited on storage
space. After we are up and running, we will release a list of what we would be grateful to receive.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support.

Community Notice: Animal Control and Shelter Update

The City of Benson would like to inform residents that, at this time, we do not have active Animal Control Officers, though we currently have applicants moving through the hiring process. Additionally, our animal shelter is undergoing important renovations to improve future services.

Due to limited staffing and the temporary unavailability of shelter facilities, we kindly ask the public to utilize community-based resources to help reunite lost pets with their families. Effective steps include:

Speaking with neighbors in the area where the animal was found

Posting photos and information on local Facebook groups or community boards

If you encounter an emergency situation involving animals—such as aggressive stray behavior, animal bites, or suspected neglect or cruelty—please contact the Benson Police Department. An officer will respond to assess and address the situation.

Please note: We are currently unable to house animals, even in cases where a police officer responds.

We want to emphasize that a healthy, non-aggressive stray animal does not pose an immediate threat to the community. In many cases, these animals may be lost pets trying to find their way home. Removing them from the area where they were found may unintentionally prevent their owners from locating them.

Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support as we work to restore full Animal Control services for the community.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who came out to meet our incredible dogs and cats, offered support, donated resources, and opened their hearts and homes through adoption. Your generosity and compassion made all the difference — we truly couldn’t have done it without you!
We’re thrilled to share that every one of our shelter animals has found safety, either through adoption or rescue placement!
