2023 wildlife baby season is already here

These 3 were found motherless after a tree was cut down with their nest in it. They are receiving round the clock syringe feedings and so far appear to be healthy and thriving.

We have two fundraisers going right now to help with the costs of caring for orphaned wildlife that we take in this year

Easter Bunny Pictures still have several spots available for just $20 per family and we are still taking orders for the Egg My Yard Fundraiser

All proceeds go towards the care of animals we already have as well as towards the formula, heating pads, enclosures and whatever else is needed to properly care for any injured, sick or orphaned wildlife that comes into our care for rehabilitation.

Donations can also be sent to our PayPal

Good Morning!

It's been a couple months since I've updated everyone. Thank you all for your patience while I took the last several weeks to focus on the animals, my kids, and my mental-emotional health. Social media along with animal rescue can be emotionally draining so taking a step away for a few weeks to focus on being present with my kids & animals has been crucial to avoid potential burnout. Attempting to start a business from the ground up, starting a non profit animal sanctuary to help domestic animals, livestock and now adding in wildlife is quite the challenge at times and taking breathers when needed is something I've learned will be so incredibly important on this journey.

I have seen a couple comments asking about Duke, the deer, and want to let you all know he is doing really well. He has adjusted to life here at The Sanctuary without issue and I am so thankful to everyone who helped him on his journey.

With all of that being said, I will not be open by Easter as I had originally hoped. Over the past year, I have jumped around to different projects as needed in order to take in different animals and accommodate their differing needs. This Spring, I'm going to put my focus on finishing projects I've already started as well as now needing to get the WildLife Sanctuary portion of The Oasis up & going.

When I'm closer to figuring out a potential open date this year I will be sure to announce on here a couple weeks in advance.

I have thought about doing Easter Bunny fundraiser pictures here set up similarly to how we did Santa pictures. 15 minute sessions where you take pictures on your phone. We will potentially have chick's and a couple of our rabbits to interact with and take pictures with. As usual proceeds from the pictures go towards the feed & care for the animals. They will be $20 per session and the tentative dates would be March 25th & 26th as well as April 1st & 2nd. Please *comment* if this is something you'd be interested in so I know if I need to start getting this put together.

I am also considering doing the Egg My Yard Fundraiser again this year. Where will we deliver candy filled plastic Easter eggs and hide them in your yard the evening before Easter. I'm not sure on the prices on that yet I will try to keep it as close to last year's prices as possible depending on the cost difference for me purchasing eggs & candy. If you are interested in that please *comment* to let me know so I can start looking into ordering what is needed and get a price sheet together.

Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everyone's support & patience. We can't wait to see everyone again soon!

We picked up Duke and brought him back home to The Sanctuary today ❤️

He is settling in and getting to know his new environment. We have him in a temporary safe & secure area but work has begun on his permanent enclosure.

The amazingly generous donations we have received so far have gotten us started on the fencing for Duke's new home. Thanks to you all, an amazing $568 has been raised for Duke!

We still need around $900 worth of fencing and materials in order to have his new enclosure in accordance to State & USDA requirements. This is a must in order for Duke to safely & happily live his life here at The Oasis.

Again thank you all for the love & support!

We officially have our website up & running. It's still under construction and things need to be added but my hope is to have our full 2023 schedule created and linked on our site. Once we have shirts and other items for sale they will also be listed on our site.

There will be a section on our page with information that will pertain to wildlife and when to intervene. (This information has not been posted yet but will be in the near future) This will include information on several species of wildlife that you may encounter and what to do/not to do. I will do my best to get back to anyone who has encountered wildlife in need, but please keep in mind I am one person, with several animals already in my care as well as a mom to three kids. This information will be available for you to refer to as a reference when encountering injured wildlife. If after you have read that information you believe the animal in question still needs assistance reach out to us via fb message or the link on our page.

We will still continue to update our Facebook as usual.

The highest priority of Pickle City Animal Oasis is to offer sanctuary to animals in need, wildlife rehabilitation, education in animal welfare & allow people to connect with the several different species of animals we have here at The Oasis.

Now we have Waffles (our first donkey) and this is Maple (think syrup lol)

Waffles is so excited to have another donkey here at The Oasis with him ❤️

Look at those ears 😍😍 An absolute doll baby- though halter training donkeys is always such a fun task 🥴

I just received the long awaited news that I am officially licensed through the state of Illinois as a wildlife rehabber.

Duke will be home for Christmas ❤️

Now with this amazing news for Duke, I want to take the time to reiterate how incredibly important it is to NOT repeat these mistakes with future wildlife. My hope in Duke being here is that he will be a constant reminder to the public that there is a right way and a wrong way to help our wildlife. As someone who quite literally dedicates my life to caring for animals, I understand how we ended up in this situation but my hope moving forward is to prevent this from happening again.

Please also take note that while having a Wildlife Rehabilitation License does allow me to help our local wildlife, it DOES NOT grant me the power to keep wildlife longer than deemed necessary for rehabilitation. Duke is the acception, not the rule.

There are rules & guidelines that are put in place that I must and will abide by while caring for any wildlife that need assistance. This includes timeframes as well as a limit in the number of wildlife animals I can take in at one time.

I hope to continue helping animals as well educating the public and those who wish to help animals do so in a way that will benefit them for the entirety of their lives.

I will be making arrangements to pick Duke up and transport him back here to The Oasis.

We could still use help funding for the fencing for Duke's area. So far we managed to raise an amazing $343 out of the $1,500 I estimate I will need to make sure he has a safe enclosure that is in accordance to State and Federal laws.

Any help towards this is so appreciated! Thank you to everyone for the love & support through these uncharted waters.

I've had a few people reach out for an update on Duke, the Christmas Deer.

We've been in limbo for the past couple of weeks due to the legalities of keeping wildlife.

However, I did receive my application for my wildlife license and will have that overnighted to the Springfield office. From my understanding, they're aware of Duke and the situation so we are hopeful the license will be processed and approved quickly.

As soon as I receive that license, I have been given permission to pick Duke up and bring him here to The Oasis.

I had always hoped to receive my wildlife license and this was always a goal of mine however I did not anticipate being thrown into needing to receive it so quickly.

With that being said, Duke needs a safe area with proper fencing within the guidelines of the IDNR and USDA requirements.

Any help towards the purchase of the fencing would be so appreciated! I do have a spot ready for him temporarily, however having this larger area properly fenced in is crucial for his well-being.

With it being Christmas time, and as a mom of 3 I understand now is a hard time to give monetary donations. Any little bit is beyond appreciated, even if it's just $1.

I estimate the cost of getting his area finished to be around $1,500 - I already have the wood posts so that helped cut the cost down significantly.

If all goes well, we should have Duke home by Christmas ❤️

The Yellow Belly Slider has officially been upgraded ❤️

She will be staying in the house until I can make some progress on the reptile building. But I'd say she's pretty happy with her new home 🥰

Update: Someone has a 75 gallon tank in like new condition they're able to sell for $50! This helps cut down the cost by a couple hundred dollars for her new habitat.

We recently took in a 10 year old yellow bellied slider turtle.

The family who owned her reached out stating they didn't feel they were properly providing her with the space and home she deserves and asked if we would take her in. They brought everything they've been using to care for her so she does still have have a temporary home until we can get her into an appropriate sized tank.

As a semiaquatic turtle her age & size, she would do best in a 75 gallon tank with a floating dock to bask on along with plants for enrichment.

(S)he would love to have a new, upgraded home for Christmas ❤️

If you would like to help donate towards us being able to get her an upgraded habitat it would be so appreciated 🥰

(These are pictures from when she first got to our house, she has since had a water change, more water added to her tank and there is a temporary dock in there for her to bask on.)
