We were recently contacted by animal control to help with a hoarding situation. They had seized 13 dogs and were quickly running out of room. HSNWLA was able to take in 10 of these little babies, 6 female (LoveBug, Candy, Honey, Rose, Caramel, and Mattie) and 4 male (Romeo, Cupid, Eros, and Lambchop). Two of them have heartworms and several had to be shaved down due to severe matting. But as you can see, these precious souls have learned that our volunteers are always available for some love and attention (and lots of treats). They will all undergo medical evaluation and we hope they will be available for adoption soon. Keep watching for updates!

Princess Anne “catching some air” over the notorious Ledyard Coffin back in one of the three “Ledyard Internationals” 1973, 1975, or 1977, hosted by Neil and Helen Ayer at their Ledyard Farm in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.

Neil was both Master of Myopia and president of the USCTA (now USEA) and he understood that the best way to have lots of USA riders deal with the intense pressures of competing against the best 3-day riders in the world was to induce riders from abroad to come to America to compete, so he personally created a cross country course at his own farm and personally paid air fare for European horses and riders.

It worked. USET squads won gold in 1974, 1976, and 1982. And while this might have happened without Neil’s intervention, my guess, as one of the American riders who competed at Ledyard, is that Ledyard provided a launching pad.

And back to Princess Anne. She was the real deal as a rider.

Marion Coakes riding the incredible 14.2 hand Stroller at the Mexico Olympics!

The accomplishments of this extraordinary duo, pony and rider, are nothing short of phenomenal, with far too many victories to enumerate here. However, consider the impressive accolades they achieved together: Ladies World Champion, Ladies European Champion, Hickstead Derby winner, Hamburg Derby champion, Queen Elizabeth II Cup victor, and, notably, the Individual Silver Medal at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City.
