You may have received a text from us this week if you have a pet boarding this weekend regarding kennel cough. I wanted to go ahead and post that text on our page so that everyone is aware.

We do not board dogs with kennel cough. If a guest arrives and is showing symptoms in the lobby, we kindly let you know that we are unable to provide services. Symptoms show typically 2-10 days after they leave. Before this month, our last reported case was June of 2023.

Year round, we treat every dog in our facility like they may have it or any other virus. We bleach and use Kennel Sol with everything the dogs come into contact with including blankets, bowls, toys, etc. We wash our hands in between loving on pets. Our grooming area is separate from our boarding area, but kennel cough can be caught at grooming facilities, dog parks and vet offices as well.

Kennel cough is similar to sending your child to school with a flu vaccination and catching the flu. We require all dogs have their Bordetella vaccination, however just like the flu shot, this does not guarantee your pet will not catch it.

‼️ If your dog has an underlying medical condition or has any chronic respiratory illness, please consider utilizing our home care services or find another home pet sitter.

Please read this infographic regarding kennel cough and most importantly, please please call and let us know if you board with us and your dog has come down with it so that we can let our other clients know.

Kennel cough is airborne and can be caught year round, however it is more common in the summer months and we are taking extra precautions!

We use kennel grade disinfectants and bleach throughout our facility. We do not allow dogs to share water bowls. We also have a staff member come in 3 days every week to do extra deep cleaning to minimize any spread of viruses.

If your dog is elderly or immunocompromised and has kennel cough, watch extra closely for pneumonia and consider utilizing our home visit services for pet care.
