ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!!
CONTRACTORS NEEDED
If you attended our Wicked Whiskers event a few weeks ago, you learned more about project Base Paws. Mew has rented a small space in order to dip our toes into having a physical location. Before anything else can happen, the space needs some minor renovation. This mostly includes flooring and paint, among a few other small things to make the space usable and safe for the cats.
Mew is looking for a contractor or otherwise experienced individuals to do this work. Our best case scenario is someone willing to donate their time. Next best is a discount that is affordable enough for us to get the work going. We will be purchasing materials, of course.
We are not rushing ourselves on any of this and will work at a pace that is comfortable. The next goal once the space is ready, will be to use the space ONLY for rescue related needs of our own. There is no plan to be open to the public - YET. However this is a longer term goal. To do this however, requires a another level of financing that we do not have.
You will see us start a capital campaign soon, as having a physical space alone requires money for overhead that we are not used to. What we do know is this- the need for cats in NWA is bigger than any of the resources available right now in all of NWA. Whether that is foster based volunteer rescues like us, or city run or private non profit shelters. Dogs are always handled first, with cats coming in second if at all, and at much higher risk for euthanasia. The area is growing day by day tremendously, and the problem is only getting worse.
This is a very loose vision/prototype of what the space could look like.
