Our area is under warning for some very cold arctic air temperature with negative degree wind chills starting Friday. Pets can get hypothermia in just 30 minutes. Please make sure your pets have a warm dry place to stay out of the cold. The best case scenario is to bring them inside. We hope everyone stays warm, dry and safe as we get through this next week!

One thing about vet med, always expect the unexpected! We were so thrilled to meet this beautiful owl and be able to help with her care. She was brought in by animal control due to being found with injuries.

UPDATE: Phones and internet are back on!

Hi everyone! Cox has an outage in our area. We have our phone working through an employee cellphone but internet is down. We are open until 11pm today and accept walk-ins. Thanks!

Northwest Arkansas Animal Urgent Care is committed to helping you keep your pets safe during the holiday season. In conjunction with the AVMA, we recommend the following things to avoid mishaps during the holidays.

Keep people food out of the reach of your pet and ask your guests to do the same;
Make sure your pet doesn’t have any access to treats, especially those containing chocolate, xylitol, grapes/raisins, onions or other toxic foods;

Don’t leave your pet alone in the room with lit candles, a decorated tree or potpourri;

Keep holiday plants (especially holly, mistletoe and lillies) out of reach of pets;

Consider leaving the tinsel off your tree if you have a cat;

Secure your Christmas tree to keep it from falling over if your dog bumps it or your cat climbs it; hanging lemon-scented car air fresheners in the tree may deter your cat from climbing it;

If your pet is excitable or scared when you have company, consider putting your pet in another room with some of his/her toys, a comfortable bed, etc. or providing a safe place for your pet to escape the excitement (such as a kennel, crate, perching place, scratching post shelf or hiding place)

Bodee and Isaac invite you to visit our Angel Tree! It’s full of links to donate to our local rescues and photos of adoptable animals in the area looking to find their forever families this holiday season! More rescues, pets and links to be added daily! Any donations are welcome to be dropped off at our clinic to be delivered to all the rescues. Items requested by rescues are wet dog and cat food, cat litter, dry food, blankets, collars/leashes, toys, treats and of course monetary donations are always needed!

If you can’t adopt, foster! If you can’t foster, donate! If you can’t donate, click share and help spread the word this season!

Whew, what a weekend! We hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends over the holiday. This year we were thankful to be available to help with medical care to the sweetest dogs and kitties!
