Our farm has 1,500 blueberry and 500 blackberry plants - ready for our first harvest in June 2017. We are a community-oriented farm with a heart for orphaned and vulnerable children. Our berries feed foster children in our local community, and pave a way for agricultural training and a sustainable food source for orphaned children in Africa.

Another reminder that today is the LAST day to get your ticket to Berry Fest. Please join us on our blueberry farm on June 22, to raise funds in partnership with to support agricultural training programs, and in children’s homes in Zimbabwe and Belize.

Adoption is not going to solve the orphan crisis. Our family firmly believes in adoption and we know that it is a part of God’s plan for us. However, we strongly advocate for holistic orphan care for the hundreds of millions of orphaned, abandoned, and at-risk children around the globe.

We originally founded an initiative we called Feed Their Tummies simply as a response to an urgent need for food at a small orphanage in the heart of Kinshasa where our daughter had spent the first year and a half of her life. After our first food delivery in 2013, we partnered with a well-respected Congolese organization, Mwangaza International, to ensure orphaned and vulnerable children in desperate need of life’s most basic provisions are being fed nutritionally sound meals each and every day.

Since the inception of the feeding program in Congo, we collaborated with Help One Now. They are a group committed to empowering and resourcing high-capacity local leaders who care for orphans and vulnerable children in order to transform communities and break the cycle of extreme poverty.

We’ve seen the power of community empowerment first-hand and knew we wanted to be a part of the good work being done globally by this organization. Dave and I have both traveled to Help One Now communities around the world in order to see the work and meet the local leaders. The sense of hope in these communities is palpable and contagious. We are honored to be a part of this tribe and advocate for the work being done around the world.

We hope you’ll join us in person this year, or if you can’t virtually through our virtual berry basket donations.

Pulling weeds, pruning and picking berries has been the framework for our kiddo’s summers for the past nine years. They jump in and work right alongside us. It’s a beautiful privilege to be able to work as a family to create delicious food and to cultivate a space for our community to gather and experience a slice of farm life.

This small blueberry farm has taught us that we can all DO something bigger than ourselves. The ripple effect of these fields reaches farther than we ever anticipated. It isn’t easy but it is simple: profits from our u-pick farm in NW Arkansas benefit a farm training program for orphaned teens in Marondera, Zimbabwe.

This farm is one of the legacy’s Dave and I want to pass down to our children. We want them to value hard work and nature and, most of all, generosity. We want them to understand that it’s never “us” and “them.” It’s not “here” and “there.” We have shared meals with our Zimbabwean leaders at their table and at ours. We have become dear friends who do life together as best we can across a sea. We hold them close in prayer and we have hopefully shown our kiddos that even though we live in different countries, with different cultures and foods and languages and looks, we are united in our humanity and our desire to run the race set before us well.

With so much division in our world today, we pray these experiences will allow our kids to rise up as world changers and light bearers for their generation.

So, yes. These fields may look like just an ordinary blueberry farm. But, there is so much more sewn into this soil: hopes and prayers and hard work and heaps of love. 🤍

As we get ready for our fifth annual Berry Fest, we reflect on our why. Our farm supports a farm and trade school for orphaned and abandoned teens in a rural village in Zimbabwe. We love these kids and have watched them grow up over the years. Knowing they are now learning skills that will serve them and their community well in the future is why we do what we do. ♥️
