Great work Animal Control!

Over the summer we asked the public’s help in locating a family that was charged with animal cruelty.

We believe that this family moved out of their residence on Emerson Drive and left their two dogs behind — intentionally confined in crates without food or water — leading to the heartbreaking death of one dog. The second dog found suffering from cruel neglect, but still alive.

Yesterday, thanks to an anonymous tip from the public, we were able to coordinate with the Lexington Police Department, and both Meriwethers were arrested!

Due to the newly enhanced language of the Kentucky Torture law, or “Ethan’s Law”, cases like this will now be charged as a FELONY. As of July 2024, LFACC officers have placed four felony charges for torture of animals.

We appreciate the public’s support and we will do everything we can to continue to be a voice for the animals! If you ever suspect animal abuse or neglect, please call us at (859) 255-9033.

Shocked and confused that Emma still has not found an adopter!? She has a classic terrier personality and definitely needs a home with another dog she can play with! Shes great in her crate and has been doing on daily car rides with her foster mom!

Welcome Parker! Isn’t she just gorgeous?

Parker found her way to us after we received a call from one of our Vets about her needing a place to go ASAP, or risk being dropped at the shelter. Unfortunately Parker is just a puppy and still learning how to potty outside. But her previous owner could not deal with the occasional mess. Please be aware puppies have accidents and require training!

She is about 4 months old. We were told she is a golden doodle. No idea how big she will be, right now she is about 20lbs. Doodles require grooming every 4-6 weeks and it is not cheap! If you do not have the funds for consistent grooming do not apply!

Some things about Parker! She is learning how to walk on the leash. Very friendly to everyone and has been great with cats and other dogs. Working on crate and house training now that she has some consistency. Great in the car! And she’s totally adorable. 🥰

Stephanie is a sweet female tabby who joined our rescue after being found alone in a park. She was trapped and since then has been enjoying life indoors!
She is quiet but social, and is getting along well with other cats and dogs. Like most cats, she really likes the eating and sleeping part of life! Stephanie is looking forward to her own warm home and lap this winter!

Spaz is a rambunctious kitten who would have no problem fitting into any home! He’s definitely an “in your face” kinda guy.
