BEFORE & AFTER: FEAR-AGGRESSION Watch Koby’s aggression melt away session-by-session.🐾 Koby’s owners and I worked as a team to earn his trust, teach him that biting doesn’t pay, and that deferring to his owners for direction in scary situations is safe and rewarding. As we chipped away at the aggression, teaching basic obedience allowed us to communicate with Koby, provide mental stimulation, take him new places, play food games, and organized tug with him. It was heartwarming❤️to watch Koby transform into an affectionate, laid back dog who associates human beings with butt scratches🍑, food rewards, cuddle time, and tug-of-war partners. If your best friend struggles with fear-aggression or any other problematic behaviors you’re not alone. Real help is here! Private lessons are taught at your home, around your neighborhood, and in real world locations like public parks and pet friendly stores, cafes, breweries, and patios. NEVER INTRODUCE DOGS ON-LEASH 🐕🦺🚫
You can tell by the desperation in my voice that I know what’s about to happen next. I understand that these folks had no idea the guy yelling to them out of a random westside apartment window was a professional Pet Dog Trainer. I also know that unsolicited advice is typically met with opposition, but knowing full well what was in-store for them I felt obligated to try.
These dog-owners are clearly very nice people committed to enriching their dog’s lives. Their goals were simple: improve their dog’s leash walking skills while providing stimulating socialization. However, they made two mistakes that could’ve lead to the death of one of their dog’s and several injuries to themselves. These dogs and owners were incredibly lucky the outcome wasn’t worse.🍀🤞🏼
1) They introduced the dogs on-leash in a highly aroused state. A tense leash creates frustration and arousal, as does the sight of a new dog. This heightened state of arousal could cause even the most socialized of dogs to fight. Give dogs time to get used to each other’s presence by occupying the same space out of reach of each other. Once they’ve calmed down allow them to meet, off-leash. Dragging a leash is fine.
2) They did not understand their dog’s genetic histories. Pitbulls ancestors were breed for Bull Baiting (1209-1835). A bloody spectator sport that involved dogs attacking and killing back-tied bulls on sight. I’m certain that these dogs are compatible playmates but as responsible Pitbull owners you have to understand that they’re less forgiving of sloppy impromptu social outings. These aren’t Golden Retrievers. I encourage all dog owners, in order to manage realistic behavioral expectations and set your dog up for success, to learn about their dog’s genetic histories. Especially owners of strong hard-mouthed power-breeds.

It’s Scout, enjoying the mental stimulation that comes along with formal crate training at the start of our Proper Puppy Program. This process has allowed Scout to enjoy her crate significantly more and has helped make potty training a breeze.
One educational note here; during the crate training process the crate should only be large enough for the dog to go into, turn around, and lay down in. If the crate is big enough for the dog to potty on one side and lay down cleanly on the other, they will and therefore sabotage potty training. In the video, the crate we are using is much too large. The owners worked to amend the issue with a divider shortly after our training exercises.

Watch as Ollie and her owner work on off-leash recalls while Ollie is distracted by my toys, treats, and affection. Ollie happily runs to her owner on command and they immediately transition into a perfect off-leash heel. Ollie stays in the heel until released with an “okay.” This is the premium standard of Pet Dog Obedience Training!

Hey, it’s Arthur! Arthur is a 3 month old Mini Golden Doodle just starting our Proper Puppy Program. Here we are in his first session practicing Formal Crate Training exercises. With young puppies it’s important that we lay the foundation of a great relationship first before requiring reliability in obedience commands. We do that by working to achieve engagement by teaching our puppy the joys of working for food, learning as owners how to proactively provide both sufficient mental and physical exercise, and achieving a TRULY potty trained dog. You cannot have a healthy, harmonious relationship with a dog who potties in the house. Don’t lie to yourself!
While Potty Training must utilize a crate to be effective, Potty Training and Formal Crate Training are two separate things that complement each other. Potty Training is about teaching your dog to hold it until outdoors via a routine food, potty, and crate schedule. While Formal Crate Training adds structure to the crate and is defined as: the dog goes into the crate on command and waits for the “okay” before running out the open door. While in the crate the dog refrains from barking, jumping on the crate door and walls, and refrains from any other behavior that would habitually discourage relaxation. Many owners are tortured throughout the Potty Training process via tyrannical crate behavior from their dogs as a result of skipping the Formal Crate Training process.
Lastly, when is a good time to hire a reputable obedience trainer? IMMEDIATELY! Hats off to @torymintz and @d_goetz25 for being responsible dog owners right from the very start.✊❤️🐶

This is Sam, a 13 wk/old standard Poodle puppy. Watch Sam and his owners practice the beginning steps to loose leash walking and the sit command.
When we introduce loose leash walking, or anything new, we do so in a quiet low distraction setting like the inside of your home. Once Sam is able to walk well on a leash inside the home we gradually add in the distractions (i.e. new environments, animals, etc.). This allows Sam to learn faster without feeling overwhelmed which gives Sam the best training experience possible.
Second, watch as Sam learns the first step of the sit command, the upward leash cue. When Sam feels the leash tug upward he knows to put his butt on the floor. The upward leash is a physical cue. We teach this cue first because dogs are predominantly physical communicators. Humans are verbal communicators. Once the physical cue is understood we link it to a verbal cue. Introducing new behaviors in Sam’s language first (physical) before moving to verbal cues results in significantly faster comprehension and increased reliability and retention.
Follow us to keep track of Sam as he and his owners make their way through our Proper Puppy Program!

Here we are with Henry the Doodle puppy! Sweet Henry’s weakness in public settings is his love for people. It’s a sign of a good boy, definitely, but in public places it causes Henry to disengage from his owners and pull towards inviting strangers for pets. This can be problematic and reduce our ability to take him places with us more often. Watch Henry’s progress as he learns to walk away from inviting strangers and focus on his handler for a food reward. What a good boy!
