Licorice was one of a clowder of four kitties Cat Care Service had the pleasure of visiting soon after opening for business. Quiet and polite and willing to wait in line for attention, Licorice was always ready to show interest and share affection. Licorice was a true sweetheart and will be remembered with fondness.

I have visited this animal shelter many times the last few months and found the cats so likable, so gorgeous, so terrific in all ways that I do not hesitate recommending a visit if you are interested in adopting a cat.

Today at Berkeley Animal Care Services I saw these adult cats, a 15 week old kitten (the Lynx Point Siamese-type), and other cats and kittens as well as Guinea Pigs, waiting for their forever homes. Berkeley’s city animal shelter is open 7 days a week except holidays. Stop by to see if you might be a forever person to a cat or dog from this shelter.

If you’ve ever shared your home with a senior cat you know they are special. If you have never lived with a cat a senior kitty will teach you what cat guardians need to know.

Lovely Louise is one of a few senior kitties waiting for a new home at Berkeley Animal Care Services. Whether their person died or their person was no longer able to care for them for a variety of reasons or they got lost without identification, each cat is ready to continue life with a new family. Senior cats are experienced at being cats and that is a big plus.

Stop by Berkeley City’s animal shelter to meet Louise, or tuxedo lady Madonna, or grey long-haired gentlecat Summer, or ask to meet tuxedo brown tabby boy Sunny in his foster home.

Even cats accustomed to going outside can become frightened, stressed, lost and possibly injured on noisy holidays such as Independence Day in the U.S. We advise you to keep your cat(s) indoors on the 4th of July, as well as on the days before and after when fireworks may cause pets to panic. If you plan to have company or if your cat seems particularly stressed set up a safe room with a box or other places to hide and all feline necessities such as litter box, food and water, favorite toys, and a scratching post. Indoor cats may appreciate being in a safe room, too. Have your cat stay in that room until holiday festivities and noises are long past. Consider also using Comfort Zone Products diffusers plugged in to electrical outlets to help keep your cat calm. Happy Independence Day to all!
