04172025: Millie & Finn (+Bosco)

These 3-year working breed dogs who have been in a group together for over a year needed some extra bonding and play time, and we found it last Thursday at their fav trail. (Finn had been feeling like a 3rd wheel around Millie & Chica's close relationship lately. So this was just what they needed!)
We played fetch, hike off trail on our secret path, and even was greeted by our fav trail buddy Bosco and his Guardian Kirk!

Bosco recognized Finn and Millie from far away and left his Dad in the dust to come play with us! So adorable! The dogs were so happy to see each other and started chasing and wrestling in the tall grass instantly! Kirk and I decided to hike together the rest of the way to give the dogs some fun and did they ever!
In the end, they were wet from the dew on the tall grass, but mostly from each other's slobber. What a great hike!

WELCOME BELLATRIX TO THE REDWOOD TRAILS FAMILY!

Coming back at ya'll to show off our newest girl in Training. Please join me in welcoming Bellatrix, our 2yr Poodle who's new to being off-leash on the trails and will be going through our group integration & trail skills training program so she can soon hike along with our other training graduates in our small Hybrid/Training off-leash group hikes.

BELLATRIX has been a stellar learner as an intelligent working breed dog. Her calm temperament and ability to turn on the fun with other playful dogs will make her a wonderful fit for our family of sweet pups. We've had a wonderful time bonding as she loves affection and I live to spoil these big fur-babies.

Please enjoy watching us work on only our 2nd training session.

After our hike, this girl was pooped andher Guardian and I were both very pleased to see a splat dog on the floor before I left. 🐾

PARK DAY W/ PACK PUPS!

FEATURING:
* Tsila - 10yr, F, Tan GSD.

* Solo - 1.5yr, M, Aussie Doodle.

We entered the park and after initial potty breaks we started on the paved trail with an on-leash structured hike; where there's no stopping for sniffing, marking, greeting and especially chasing ground squirrels.  This routine keeps me and the pack safe from the many distractions while we journey to the on-leash area.  

I find an empty field to release my pack of 4 awesome dogs and as they're playing chase among each other, a friendly small dog joins in on the fun.  Sierra shows off her progress at greeting small dogs with excellence.

We make it to the water station where they all jump in the kiddie pool and splash about... allowing other friends to join in on the fun.  As they continued to socialize and I watched as they won over the hearts of a few dogs who were nervous at first and soon felt comfortable enough to engage in play and even give kisses to our dogs!

It warms my heart to change human and dog's  experience with German Shepherds from previous bad encounters to great interactions with my pack! What a great time at the park - we all didn't want to leave!  -Cat the Doghiker

I'M BACK! I've returned from 5 weeks of medical leave and I'm back to hiking full time with my amazing crew! Check out Friday's hike!

With a pack of trail blazers and well-skilled pack dogs we all had a blast at an old favorite trail of ours.  During our hike we hop off the paved trail wherever we have opportunity to climb on fallen trees and pose for pics. We take the side trails for added enrichment while several dogs take turns placing on tree stumps to pose for pics then receive their reward - or what I call 'photo tax'. We enjoyed running the trails together and showing Finn our newcomer how we wait at the trail peak as a group until I say 'Ready, Go!' and together we run down and across to the redwoods along the ridge for a water break. From here we travel down to the Phillips Loop trail, but not before our dog models posed atop a boulder with their friends then each individually.
On the lower trail they enjoyed new scents and pinecones to play with.  We practiced our passing skills with dogs that were both on and off leash dogs with success each time.  What an awesome crew! -Cat the Doghiker

As of July 17, 2023 Redwood Trails is on a short break as Cat, the Owner & Dog Hiker, is out on leave recovering from a minor back surgery.  She's recovering great and expects a full return!

NATURE DOGS!

FEATURING:
* Tsila - 10yr, F, GSD.

We began our adventure on the sunny trails in the tall grass that gifted us with tiny colorful flowers scattered among the fields that led us to our rocky trail among the Eucalyptus & Redwood trees. As we passed fallen trees, we took opportunities for discovering our agility exercises before continuing on our usual route. Our highlight included meeting two friendly dogs creekside before our pack dipped their paws in the crisp water for a quick refresh. As we continued hiking, we reviewed our trail cues and posed for photos on boulders and trees.  Our final challenge came with a steep incline back to the dogmobile where each dog received a thorough combing due to tic sightings on our hike.  What a wonderful hike with amazing dogs! -Cat the Doghiker

MUDDY MACDONALD TRAIL

After being patient in the dogmobile as I circumvented road closures and power outages, we finally made it to find an empty muddy trail after the previous days' storm damage.  A perfect playground for our pack of big players! While most doghikers may stay home or avoid the muddy trails, Redwood Trails can't deny our furry clients an adventure like we had today! 

Highlights included:
-Scenic Horizons
-Mountainside chases (by all)
-Off trail zoomies (by all)
-Rolling downhill backside (Tsila & Kana)
-Racing to beat eachother to high points to 'Place' for photo & reward (Sierra & Kana)
-Proud digging moments (Piney)
-Having help fill Piney's hole. (Tsila)
-Having Piney walk by my side at drop-off rather than being pulled upstairs (progress!)

What a hike!
