Hi Friends. Just a quick check in to let you know how much we appreciate all your support, and all your referrals. Unfortunately, we are unable to service all the referrals we receive on a daily basis. We only take a small number of new clients on a weekly basis, and for this reason we do not have a new client appointment until the end of August. We made the decision to limit our number of new clients in order to better serve our current clients. We want to make sure we can see our clients in a timely manner when your pets need us, and give them the time and attention they deserve.

While we greatly appreciate all your referrals, we are not an emergency clinic, and do ask that you do not refer us to your friends in town on vacation. It pains us not to be able to help everyone, but we have to prioritize our current clients. Thank you for all your support and we apologize for any hard feelings this may cause.

Hi Everyone! We sincerely appreciate all your support and patience over the past few months as we navigate together the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the state has begun lifting economic restrictions clients have been asking when we will start to let people into our building. While we understand this is frustrating for many people, we have decided to continue our curbside care.

As of right now, the Maryland Veterinary Board is still recommending curbside care. We have tentatively decided to continue curbside care until we see a consistent decline in cases and hospitalizations and the state board no longer recommends curbside.

We do recognize that as temperatures increase, this could cause issues for folks that do not have AC in their cars. In those situations we will adjust procedures on an as needed basis.

We apologize for not having more concrete information but our top priority is, and has been, providing care to our furry patients and keeping our clients and staff safe in the process.

Thank you to everyone for all your continued support.

Dear BAH Community,

The past week has been very stressful with changing information on what feels like an hourly basis. As of right night veterinary practices are considered essential and we will remain open. We continue to change our protocols to comply with CDC and AVMA recommendations and most importantly, to keep staff and clients safe.

1. We will be asking annual exams, with no vaccines, to schedule their appointments about a month in advance.
2. We consider vaccines an essential appointment and will schedule normally.
3. We will still schedule technician appointments for a**l glands, due to the risk of abscess, but ask that nail trims wait until we return to normal operations.
4. All medication refills will be moved towards direct shipping. Our staff will be able to help you with this. It’s easy - we promise!
5. We will postpone on elective surgeries and procedures in consideration of the expected shortages in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) due to the expected demand in the human medical field. Elective procedures are those that can be delayed for a minimum of three months without risk to the current or future health of the patient.

Our biggest change is that we ask that clients with scheduled appointments call us from their vehicle upon arrival, a staff member will come to the car and retrieve the pet and take it inside the facility. The veterinarian will then call you and we will take credit card information over the phone.

We understand this is less than ideal for many clients and we apologize. Our top priority continues to be providing the best medical care possible, while keeping our staff and clients safe. We appreciate everyone’s patience and please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions and concerns.

Today we want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone that has been patient with us as we navigate new territory. That has patiently waited on hold, or has waited in their car. To everyone that has said thank you. To those who have brought us chocolate. To everyone who has said be well. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of compassion we have been shown, and you all continue to remind us why we love our community, why we do what we do everyday.

We are so grateful to our community - you're the best. Thank you.

Dear BAH Community,

The steady stream of news and information about COVID-19 has impacted each of us. The health of our staff, clients, and patients is our number one priority. To date, the CDC has no evidence of pets spreading COVID-19 so our primary concern is for the health of the people within our hospital.

At this time, we intend to stay open. As we navigate this new territory, there may be changes and we will do our best to keep you updated. To help protect against the spread of COVID-19 we have instituted some new policies.

We ask that all clients that have a fever, flu-like symptoms, a dry cough, those who have had exposure to an individual with COVID-19 or have recently traveled to a high risk area to please reschedule their pet’s appointment. In the instance of an urgent appointment please call and ask for special accommodations, which we will review on a case by case basis. We want to make sure your pets receive the care they need.

We request that clients leave their pets in the car, check-in at the desk, and then wait in their cars. The technicians will come get you from your car and lead you directly into a sanitized exam room. If you need other accommodations please let us know.

Please respect the ‘social distancing’ recommendations and maintain as much distance as possible and refrain from shaking hands.

We also anticipate that hold times may be longer than usual as we prioritize moving people away from the front desk as quickly as possible. Feel free to email us at [email protected], download the PetDesk app for appointment and medication refills, or you can text us at 410-629-3013.

Thank you for your understanding and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. We’re here for you, your fur children, and the community in which we live. We will continue to keep you informed as news and information becomes available.

Sincerely,

G. Eric Palmer, DVM, Practice Owner
Whitney Palmer, Practice Manager

Hi Friends. We have received some calls about pets and COVID-19. We are trying to stay on top of the most current information and will update as things change.

At this time experts do not think that dogs can get COVID-19. There is no evidence to suggest they can at this time. While there was a canine patient diagnosed in Hong Kong, it was because the canine patient was in close contact with an infected human, who was shedding large quantities of the virus. Coronavirus was on the dog’s nose in the same way there was coronavirus on the floor of the house. The dog itself was not infected.

It is possible that a person with COVID-19 could sneeze and contaminate their pet, and another person could touch the pet and contract the disease. It is believed this type of transmission would be low.

There is no vaccine for COVID-19 for pets, or people, at this time.

If you are sick with COVID-19 the CDC does recommend you restrict contact with pets as you would with other people.

We welcome any questions as our community navigates this time of uncertainty together.

Experts from the University of Illinos College of Veterinary Medicine provide answers to questions pet owners have about the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

Friends, many of you may be following the coronavirus outbreak that is continuing to spread globally. This post is in no way meant to be alarmist. We want to make sure our clients are ahead of what could possibly be a difficult time. Most of us don't need to worry about dying from the disease or necessarily contracting it at all. But, the flow of goods and services that we are used to will likely be interrupted.

The CDC is recommending taking the time to start adding a little to your grocery shopping trip each week. Make sure you've got a stocked pantry and make sure all your prescriptions are filled. Have a boatload of TP and tissues.

This also means making sure you have an extra bag of dog food on hand, especially for our pets on prescription diets. Make sure you have a month of medication for your pets on hand. We are also working to make sure our pharmacy is stocked, but as we anticipate increased medication refills, we do ask that you call in your scripts at least 48 hours in advance.

If something happens, you'll be prepared to care for yourself and your loved ones, leaving the emergency supplies for the vulnerable who don't have enough in a non-emergency situation.

This isn't about panic or fear. This is about hope and calm. Then, if nothing happens, you have things you need on hand.

An ounce of precaution is worth a pound of cure, y'all.

Three years ago today a cat was brought in to be euthanized. He was 18 years old and had chronic diarrhea and vomiting. Not an unreasonable choice for a pet parent but one of our staff decided to ask the previous owners to surrender him and she took him home to live out his last bit of time. At (allegedly) 21 years of age Simba, aka Orange Cat, is still going strong. He still has chronic diarrhea but we mostly manage it with diet. So today we dedicate International Cat Day to OC and his love of sunbathing.

If you receive a call from someone pretending to call from our office asking for credit card information DO NOT give them any information. This is an instance of caller ID spoofing, they are plugging in our number to block their own. Comcast says there is no way to trace who is doing this and it generally subsides in a few hours. Please let us know if you receive a call so we can try to track it.

Again, please do not give any personal information over the phone!

Dr. Palmer is fighting a cold today so Eva the Golden Technician is making sure he gets enough rest and fluids.
