The Clarke County Animal Shelter is a government run 501c3, "open admission" shelter. If you have lost or found an animal you can call the shelter to file a lost/found pet report. Stray animals will be held for a designated hold period, If no owner comes before the end of the hold period the animal will be

come shelter property. When reclaiming an animal, OWNERS MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AND PAY ANY RELATED FEES BEFORE THE ANIMAL CAN BE RELEASED BACK TO THE OWNER. "Open admission" means we receive animals regardless of their behavior, health or level of adaptability, and that we do not turn away any UN-wanted or stray animals from the towns and unincorporated communities of Berryville, Boyce, Millwood, White Post, Waterloo, Calmes Neck, Frog Town, and parts of Bluemont. The shelter takes in roughly 900 animals a year, with the totals growing each year. We take GREAT pride in keeping the shelter clean and inviting and giving the animals in our facility the greatest love, care and attention as possible. This is all managed by two full time employees and volunteers. Along with a small facility comes a small budget. Our local Humane foundation helps us with the unexpected and emergency vet bills and for spaying and neutering of the SHELTER animals. If you would like to help you can be a regular donor or a volunteer! Your donations will help with the present and future care of the animals at our shelter. We do Same day adoptions only if you have already submitted an application and it has been approved. All cat adoption fees are $35 plus the cost of spay/neuter if applicable and dog adoptions are $50 plus the cost of spay/neuter if applicable. Other animals adoption fees vary. If you rent we need a letter from a landlord saying you are allowed to adopt. Must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. All Spay/neuter fees must be paid with a check/money order or cash ONLY and made out to the Clarke county humane foundation. We cannot accept card payments for spay/neuters

Zee is an amazing dog! He's just not an "in your face" type of lovey dog. He needs time, space, and patience. He will reward you for your patience by being the best friend you didn't know you needed.

Pet of the Week: Zee is a 6-year-old male bully mix. He is a big, loveable baby who is fully housetrained and knows some basic commands. Zee has lots of energy and would likely do well with another high-energy dog, although a meet and greet would be required. Zee is neutered, up to date on all shots, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $50.

If you can give Zee a good life, please complete a Pre-Adoption Application: www.clarkecounty.gov/government/animal-control-shelter

Mini Molly, gentle Asher and big ol' Bear. Each of these seniors found their way here, and they could each use a foster home, stat! A shelter is no place for an older pet.

All are neutered, and will be getting senior bloodwork asap, to get a better feel for their overall health.

(Black) Bear is a gentle giant with meaty paws and is one of those guys that purrs on contact. He has the torn ears of a kitty that has spent his life outside, and was never neutered till now. He is FIV+ but as you may know, keep him inside from now on and he can live as long as negative cats. He tends to close his right eye a lot, but outwardly, it seems healthy. This will be looked at by the vet. You can't hear it, but he is purring very loudly in this photo! We have found the Bear is not fond of other cats.

(Tabby) Asher came in from a hoarding case and was found living among the bodies of deceased animals. 😔 He is a gentle old guy that deserves love in a real home, with or without other cats. (Incidentally, 3 other cats he came in with, Sunshine (adopted), Suki, and Mochi, are also at the shelter and ready for adoption.)

Gray and white little Molly was surrendered because she was peeing outside the box. There are dozens of reasons why cats do this, but all we know is at the shelter, she is using it consistently, like a champ! Our tiny girl is 15!

While all 3 are available for immediate adoption, foster homes would help greatly as well.

We will be here until 6pm this evening. Please leave a message if we do not answer and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We can't believe Snowy is STILL here! He is perfect and such a goofy boy. His personality will keep a smile on your face. We were told that he does not do well with other dogs, however I am confident that he would be just fine with a submissive partner. Cat's are a different story. He must go to a home with no cats. Please stop by and check him out. His adoption fee has been sponsored. Let's find him a home for Christmas!

Pet of the Week: Snowy is a 5-year-old husky mix. Do you want to brush a snowman? Well, here is your chance! Based on the information we were given, he lived outside for most of his life. Like most huskies, he can be quite vocal when left unattended. Snowy loves attention and will gladly give it in return.

Snowy's adoption fee has been generously sponsored.

If you can give Snowy a good life, please complete a pre-adoption application: www.clarkecounty.gov/government/animal-control-shelter

For more information or to visit Snowy contact the Clarke Animal Shelter at (540) 955-5104 or [email protected] located at 225 Ramsburg Lane, Berryville, VA 22611.
