To the best of my ability, I try to find the best character dogs with the strongest bloodlines to perpetuate healthy German Shepherds for a legacy I can be proud of! This is what every good breeder should strive to do. None of us are perfect and there is no ‘perfect’ dog. But there is ALWAYS room to improve and more to learn! December 1st will forever live in my memory as the day I lost my best friend Dagger. It’s hard to believe so much time has passed without his enormous presence within it.
Dagger carried me through some of the worst days of my life, beginning with the loss of my brother, Alan, and many other heartaches to follow.
But he also shared some of the happiest and most fulfilling days of my life through so many incredible changes. He was my shoulder - my guardian angel wrapped in fur.
So it is no coincidence that he came to me in a dream last night, looking the way he always did - his compassionate smile lifting me up as it always did. The dream was certain reassurance that Dagger is still present whenever my heart feels his void so terribly.
For those of you who have had a companion like him, you understand the enormous love and subsequent hollowness when they are no longer physically there to touch. It’s said that the first year after loss is the hardest, but I miss him as much today as a year ago when his spirit departed. I can’t imagine his loss will ever feel final to me and not sure I would allow that anyway. He will always be alive in my heart and dreams and I am so very grateful for that
