I met Gracie, Colleen and a number of other current residents here this evening when I was delivering a baby mouse I found (I think she will be fine, but was too young to be released as her eyes are just barely open). Please consider contributing to support their care if you are able!

Keeping your pet safe during the upcoming eclipse is important due to potential confusion and anxiety that can be caused by the unusual dimming of light. Here are some key points to keep your pets safe during the eclipse:

Keep them indoors: Keep your pets indoors during the eclipse to prevent confusion or anxiety caused by the sudden changes in light. Ensure they are in a comfortable, familiar environment with curtains drawn or blinds closed to minimize exposure to the unusual lighting conditions.

Provide distractions: To help alleviate any anxiety your pet may experience during the eclipse, provide distractions such as toys, treats, or engaging activities. Keeping them occupied can divert their attention away from the unusual event outside.

Monitor outdoor activities: If you need to take your pet outside during the eclipse, keep them on a leash and closely supervise them at all times. Pets may become disoriented or frightened by the changing light conditions, so it's essential to keep them under control to prevent them from running off or getting injured
Create a calm environment: Keep noise levels low and maintain a calm atmosphere inside your home during the eclipse. Loud noises or sudden movements could exacerbate your pet's anxiety, so try to create a peaceful environment to help them feel secure.

Watch for signs of distress: Monitor your pet closely for any signs of distress or discomfort during and after the eclipse. Signs may include pacing, panting, trembling, or attempts to hide. If you notice any signs of anxiety, comfort your pet and provide reassurance until the eclipse has passed and normal daylight returns.

By following these key points, you can help ensure your pet stays safe and comfortable during the unusual event of an eclipse.

**Situational Awareness Update**
During late March and early April in Maine, there is a statewide scientific movement called "The Big Night". The purpose of this movement is to study amphibians as they cross rural roads on rainy nights to get to their nesting grounds. Hundreds of volunteers for "The Big Night" are out across the state documenting information during the nighttime hours, which are the peak hours for amphibian activity. 🐸
If you see a group of people with flashlights and reflective vests in an area known for marshes, this may very well be what they are doing.
Sgt. Nicholson checked Casco Rd last night and it was hopping with activity.
As always, do not hesitate to call us if you see anything suspicious or out of place (207)725-5521 x1

We are looking for fosters!
We need fosters for pregnant/nursing moms with kittens. You must live in the state of Maine, be willing to drive to Fryeburg for regular vet appointments and Portland in case of an after-hours emergency. If you are interested please fill out the form below!

03/13/2024

Daytona arrived at RPC this Sunday 3/10 as a stray cat who wasn't in great health. She was very visibly pregnant upon arrival but we were unsure on when to expect the kittens arrival. Daytona went into labor and was unable to have the kittens on her own, therefor requiring us to get her immediate medical help. She was brought to one of our local vet hospitals and underwent an emergency C-Section to remove the kittens. All but one kitten had sadly already passed away. The one remaining kitten has been named Bristol and is continuing to beat all odds. Little Bristol and Daytona will be going into a foster home for one on one care as they continue to recover.

RPC was not expecting this emergency cost and it has impacted our small medical fund immensely. All donations will go directly towards paying her vet bill and any continued care her and Bristol require. We are thankful for all donations to help us recoup the cost from baby Bristol and Daytona.
