Siri is a 6 month old Landseer (Newfoundland) that needs a foster home from today until Sunday. (Siri has interest and can move to her foster to adopt home then)
We are hoping for a foster close to the Rockland area as she has a recheck appointment on Thursday.

Siri will need to be crated at all times when she is not directly being monitored and she must be leashed and monitored when outside.

This sweet girl came to us because she had water toxicity from significantly over drinking water and eating snow. Keeping her water intake monitored during her time with you is a must.

Please message us if you can help!

I did a grooming for a longhair Dachshund last week but unfortunately only got a before photo of him so here is an album I made on the subject from several years ago. Need to get some fresh before and after photos

https://www.facebook.com/share/14JA95wRVJ/?

This album shows a 3.5 year old mini longhair female who had been clipped her whole life, prior to me meeting her. Clipping is the worst thing you can go to your longhair (or wirehair) coat because it takes off all the healthy hair, and leaves behind all the soft dead stuff. For this dog I began by combing her with a narrow comb to get out mats as the dense dead hair. Next I began to hand pluck the dead hair. Hand stripping/plucking involves pulling out the dead outer coat of a long or wire haired by hand, rather than cutting the hair with clippers. This allows a new coat to grow in. Brush your longhair with a slicker brush to get any knots out and stimulate the oil to ensure their skin does not dry out and gives them a healthy coat. If you have dead hair using a narrow comb small areas is best to get out that hair and knots.

Start with a narrow metal comb (small areas first so you don't irritate the already sensitive skin), then after you get some density out you can also gently pluck that out by hand. Try brushing a lot out then using a furminator shampoo and leaving it on for several minutes, rinsing, then conditioning and combing again once dry.

There is also something called a stripping blade but this should not be used by anyone who does not know how to properly use one.
