It’s Guinea Pig Awareness Week and we are here to celebrate these sweet, little creatures 🐹🐹❤️

🐹 Understanding Guinea Pig Behavior 🐹

It's Day 1 of Guinea Pig Awareness Week 2024, and we're starting off with an exploration of guinea pig behavior!

Guinea pigs are expressive little creatures with many unique behaviors. From popcorning (jumping for joy) to "rumble-strutting" (a sign of dominance or courtship), understanding their behavior is key to providing proper care.

Guinea pigs communicate through a range of vocalizations. These include wheeking for food, a soft "chutt-putt" while exploring, purring when content, and squealing or screaming when painful. Their sounds are key to understanding their emotional state. 🎶

Keep an eye out for signs of stress, such as hiding or excessive vocalization, which could indicate health or environmental issues. Encourage their natural behaviors by offering safe spaces to explore, nibble, and play. 🧡

Patricia has taken a liking to the reception area and we kindly ask you to watch fingers, toes, eyeballs, faces and basically ALL body parts around her. 😖 She will cause great bodily harm to all around her. 🔪

😹😹Ok, we are exaggerating…a tiny bit. But be warned of the black cat when you come in. She’s in charge around here. 🤦🏼‍♀️😲

Today we saw a beautiful Piebald Veiled chameleon that wasn’t feeling well. 🌡️ 🤢

His owner found Dr. Walker on a chameleon Facebook group and came from 2 hours away to see her. She was able to help this sweet creature and assist his mom with his nutritional needs. ❤️

We are fortunate to offer exotic animal care 5 days a week and see all types of feathered, scaled, webbed and furry creatures! 🪶 🦜 🐍 🦎 🐱 🐶 🐢 🐹

It’s been a tough month at BVH.
We have had to say goodbye to two more of our beloved resident cats.

Apache came to us with her sister, Willow, after both her owners passed away, about 18 months ago. ❤️

Orca came to us 4 years ago from a shelter when her previous family could not provide surgery she desperately needed. ❤️

These cats have provided such comfort to staff and clients with their presence, they will be missed dearly.
