More than 80% of dogs in the US had a veterinary visit in 2021, compared with around 40% of cats, in part because cats mask pain even better than dogs do, but that's also a reason cats need regular veterinary care, says veterinarian Casey Locklear at Zoetis. Annual wellness visits can reveal the ons...

However, this cannot happen unless you take your cat to see the veterinarian routinely. Many cats are fearful or distressed when going to the veterinarian because the p...

"....Feral cats in Australia kill an average of 576 native species per year, while pet cats kill an average of 111 – approximately 40 reptiles, 38 birds and 32 mammals. (There are no estimates for the number of frogs or insects killed.) The pet cats kill only 25 percent of what the feral cats do, but because pets live at much higher densities, their "predation rate per square kilometer in residential areas is 28–52 times larger than predation rates by feral cats in natural environments."

A new study from Australia found that pet cats kill 230 million native animals every year.

"Humans remain the biggest risk to other humans in transmission of the virus. There is no evidence cats readily transmit the virus to humans, nor are there documented cases in which humans have become ill with COVID-19 because of contact with cats."

Study confirms cats can become infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus and pass the infection along to other cats. Cats shed the virus up to six days following infection via their nasal passages. Researchers urge cat owners to keep their pets indoors during the pandemic.

04/23/2020

The animals appear to have mild symptoms and likely caught the virus from their owners. And there’s no evidence pets can pass it to humans.

04/08/2020

Scientists are still trying to understand which animals may be susceptible to the new coronavirus. Much is unknown, but there’s no evidence so far that pets can spread the virus to people.

There is still no evidence that pets can be a source of COVID-19 in people.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic:

Until further notice, Cat Clinic hours will be by prearranged appointment only.

Appointments should be limited to sick or injured patients, or for medical progress evaluation of chronically ill or recovering patients. Elective procedures should be postponed. Routine wellness checks and vaccinations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

During this time, HUMAN entry into the clinic will be restricted, so curbside patient drop-off followed by phone communication will be necessary in most cases. Please phone ahead to schedule an appointment: (563) 355-2927.

Please be advised that there may be a fee for phone consultations regarding current patients, and that only limited information can be provided for cats that are not current Cat Clinic patients.

My apologies for this inconvenience, but these measures are being taken to protect your health as well as ours, and to continue to provide the best possible care for your feline companions.
