Last night at the Nebraska Star Party I was wandering around Dob Row where all of the large Dobsonian telescopes set up. I walked up to a 25" diameter scope and asked what they were looking at. They said, "The Cat's Eye Nebula." I started laughing. I had them shine a flashlight on my T-shirt. I was wearing my Cat's Eye Distillery shirt. They started laughing also when I told them the story about how I named the distillery after the nebula! (Yes, it looked VERY cool in the 25" scope!)

This is a first. Just under 9 year old MGP 21 rye bourbon. Not even 4 inches in the barrel. Check that proof.

Will end up going into NFR.

Pulling samples of our new casks. All MGP. 11 year bourbon-rye blend and 8 year 10-11 month 21% rye bourbon. This 11 year bourye is insanely dark. I have a feeling it's going to taste absolutely delicious. Casks are proofing between 96 and 103 proof (barrel proof).

Store picks are available. First come, first served. MSRP for the 11 year is around 85, 8 year is around 65.

Following up on yesterday's post, here is some important information to consider:

1. In 1934 Iowa became one of the original control states.

2. In 1985, Iowa privatized wine distribution.

3. In 1987, Iowa's state owned retail locations were closed. The sale of beer, wine and liquor were allowed by private retailers and private distribution of beer was legalized.

4. Iowa did not face a budget crisis in the years following the closure of state owned retail or the newly privatized distribution.

5. As recent as 2015, efforts have been made to privatize distribution of liquor in Iowa. Take a wild guess who lobbied against it? The Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors Association. At the time, the director, Sheila Douglas, went on record stating that state controlled distribution of liquor prevents "public disorder, violence, over-consumption and marketing domination."

Iowa distillers say antiquated regulatory system stifles industry growth

Today we attended the Native Distillers meeting with the Iowa Alcohol Beverage Division. Over a dozen local craft producers voiced their concerns with the state's operations, heavily favoring out of state conglomerates and refusing to work with the little guys. Excuses included blaming their subcontractor and being bound by the code. After voicing our struggles, these people had the audacity to tell us to "call our legislators and change the law."

Hearing these words today was a slap in the face. Most local craft distillers like ourselves are worried enough about paying our bills and overhead. We certainly can't afford to spend tens of thousands to change laws. This is where you can help us.

In lieu of this, we have created a new tee shirt. 100% of profits will be used to fund legislation to once and for all end the Iowa ABD's stronghold on the state and support craft producers, specifically by ending their monopoly and control of distribution. A free marketplace breeds competition and allows private parties to facilitate systems specifically to support the little guys.
