Because nothing good goes to waste: our Cheep Cheep (aka “Cheapie”) Tags are a limited stash of solid brass tags we’ll be making available tomorrow.
Made from 20-gauge solid brass (lighter than our usual 14-gauge tags), these tags were part of our original product testing for rivet-on tags, but just weren’t quite up to our high standards and didn’t make our final cut. Rather than let them go to waste, we’re offering them at a “cheep, cheep” price. 🐥

Limited quantities will be available starting January 31—because we believe in using what’s still good, not tossing it aside. These Cheapie Tags will be deeply engraved, salt-water safe, ready for adventure, and available for collars 3/4”-width and greater.

In addition to our Cheepie tags, tomorrow we are also are introducing:

🔹 Leather Training Tabs – For quick, reliable handling during off-leash work.
🔹 Backup Safety Links – Because prong collars should never be a single point of failure.

It started with a desperate email.

“I’ve bought so many collars and leashes over the years, but they all end up the same—frayed, chewed, or faded. I just want something that lasts. Can you help?”

I paused before replying. No collar or leash is indestructible—leather softens, hardware wears, biothane stiffens, and even the strongest materials show their age eventually. But that’s not the whole story. The real question isn’t about forever; it’s about trust.

So, I listened to their concerns, learned about their dog, and then I got to work. Full-grain leather for durability. Biothane for weatherproof strength. Hardware that could withstand the pull of a determined dog. And a design tailored to fit their lifestyle.

Many weeks later, I got an unexpected update: “We’ve had your leash for over a year now. Hikes, swims, road trips—it’s been there for it all. I don’t think we could ever use anything else. And the collar still looks incredible. It’s not just holding up—it’s ours. I can see the story it’s starting to tell.”

Collar: The Mini Lunar in Eggplant leather

As a lifelong cat owner, I never thought I’d go this long without a feline companion. Growing up and also well into my adult years, our home was never without a cat (or two). But for the past three years, our home has been catless. It wasn’t intentional—life just unfolded that way. We love every minute spent with our dogs, who certainly fill the house with their energy and personality, but there’s something undeniably different about having a cat around.

As a now catless household, it’s easy to feel like a ‘Dog Person’ by default, but the truth is, I’ve always been a cat and dog person, with a soft spot for the unique joy that each brings. Cats have a way of quietly grounding a space that I deeply miss.

For the time being, I remain a Dog Lady dreaming of the day when we’ll welcome a cat back into our lives. Until then, I’ll continue to take a special kind of joy in creating custom-made collars and leashes for your felines, and admire the stories and photos you all share of your beloved cats. They serve as a gentle reminder of just how much joy cats bring and why I’ll always be a cat person at heart.

If you’re fortunate enough to have both cats and dogs in your life, hold onto that balance. It’s a special thing, and I can’t wait to experience it again someday when the time is right.

As the new year begins, I’ve been reflecting on the whirlwind of 2024. Over the past few weeks, I’ve taken some time to travel, catch up with family, and soak in some quiet moments with the pups…and I hope you have too. Now that I’m back in the shop, I’ve been busy fulfilling orders and making plans for an exciting year ahead.

In November, Sloppy Chops Co. made an important update to our rolled biothane leashes—a change we shared on our website and with our email list, however, in the rush of the holidays, I realized we hadn’t yet shared this news here with our social media community.

After months of testing, we’ve upgraded to a new style of rope clamps for our rolled biothane line. These clamps are significantly sturdier and more reliable, offering a sleek 1-inch length and weighing only 0.15 oz. Beyond their lightweight design, they deliver improved safety and durability for your pet, which has always been our top priority.

The decision to switch was not made lightly. Our previous rope clamps faced ongoing manufacturing challenges, including inconsistent sizing, burrs that required manual removal and sanding, frequent stock shortages, and occasional breakage or weakness during setting. These issues not only impacted our production process but also resulted in significant product loss and required doubling up on leash clamps to ensure safety for strong dogs that pulled. Despite repeated attempts to address these concerns with our former manufacturer in the hopes of achieving consistency and reliability, the results continued to fall short of our standards.

We hold ourselves to high standards when it comes to the quality and safety of our products, so it became clear that a change was necessary.

This new design eliminates the need for doubled-up clamps on strong pullers, offering a cleaner, more dependable solution overall. We’re confident this update will serve you and your companions well, whether you’re adventuring outdoors or enjoying everyday walks. 🧵(1/2)…

Not every collar design is a one that I’d dress my own dogs in, but this one 🤌 definitely is. An homage to our Creature Collar, The DAZZLE Collar utilizes strong rectangular spots and our seaglass cabochons for a “glow-from-within” look. 💜 Thank you to everyone for your well wishes for Winston. Today I will be taking a day away from the shop and spending time with him in preparation for his surgery in the morning. As promised earlier this week, I just listed this custom Pax buckle collar (and a few other items) in the shop, all available for immediate purchase in our Ready-to-Ship section on the website. Collar color is Orca (black) with matching strapkeeper and stainless steel hardware. The collar features extra large 1” pyramid studs on the main panel and a fully decked out pyramid border. We recently had a custom request to please make a hand-dyed lead reflective for night-time walks. I have not created anything like that before, but by george, with a little bit of brainstorming, I think we have it! But I want to know, is this upgrade something I should offer in the shop? Is there a demand for it? 🤔Shoot, I am seriously in bed by 6:30pm (yes, I'm secretly an old fart at heart 😆) and not a night walker so I'd love some feedback from you.
