This guy really had the works! He was an absolute warrior and was probably the most scarred up deer I’ve worked on. Lots of character! He had a chunk out of his ear and a huge neck wound which the owner elected to recreate, and he also needed some antler repair. I absolutely love when my clients give me room to be creative!

Once bitten, twice shy… Early last month, this machine took a substantial bite out of my left hand, costing me a week+ of work. I’m back at it now, full swing, but with a new respect and a lot more awareness as to where I keep my hands…and some nerve damage😂

Although I’m no longer mounting birds, other than the ones a have, I am keeping my federal migratory bird license open for doing specialty things like this for places like the Blandy Experimental Farm at the Virginia State Arboretum. How cool!!!!! A larger female Sharp-Shinned hawk (I think) and a female Pileated Woodpecker!

We delivered the Cooper’s hawk to her forever home yesterday! She is displayed in the Parkfield Learning Center building at the State Arboretum of Virginia, Blandy Experimental Farm UVA. If you ever have the chance to visit, it is an absolutely wonderful facility with fantastic and knowledgeable staff. It was quite a treat for my son and I to get a tour of the grounds. I hope y’all can make the time to go explore and say Hi to “madam Coops” while you’re there!

Coopers Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)… What a special opportunity it was to mount this! She’ll go to her forever home next week at the State Arboretum where she’ll be displayed in the wildlife education center.
