We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Haber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As I considered starting a new dog product business, my thought process was centered on creating a brand that aligned with my values and met the needs of conscious pet owners. I envisioned a business that focused on providing high-quality, healthy, and natural products for dogs, using only human-grade ingredients that I would feel confident feeding to my own furry companion. I was committed to promoting a balanced and wholesome approach to pet care, and I wanted to offer eco-friendly products that minimized our environmental impact. Additionally, I recognized the importance of aesthetics, and I aimed to create artfully designed products that not only served a functional purpose but also added a touch of beauty to the daily lives of pets and their owners. With these principles in mind, I was motivated to create a business that would provide pet owners with a trusted source of dog products that were both healthy for their pets and kind to the planet.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Arfinia is a dog product company that specializes in manufacturing healthy, natural dog products. We are passionate about providing pet owners with high-quality products that are made from natural, wholesome ingredients that promote the health and well-being of dogs.

At Arfinia, we understand that dogs are more than just pets – they are members of the family. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles and Beverly Hills for a week, here’s an itinerary that would showcase some of the best places to eat, drink, visit, and hang out:

Day 1: Start the day off with brunch at Sqirl, a trendy cafe in Silver Lake known for their delicious toasts and jams. Then, head to the Griffith Observatory to take in the views of the city and explore the exhibits. For dinner, go to Bestia, a popular Italian restaurant in the Arts District.

Day 2: Spend the day at Venice Beach, renting bikes or taking a surf lesson. Grab lunch at Gjelina, a farm-to-table restaurant on Abbot Kinney, then head to the Getty Center to explore the art museum and gardens. For dinner, check out Catch LA, a rooftop seafood restaurant in West Hollywood.

Day 3: Start the day off with a hike at Runyon Canyon, then grab lunch at The Ivy, a celebrity-favorite restaurant in Beverly Hills. Afterward, stroll down Rodeo Drive to window shop and people watch. For dinner, head to Craig’s, another popular celebrity haunt.

Day 4: Spend the day at Universal Studios, going on rides and exploring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For dinner, go to Pizzeria Mozza, a delicious pizza joint in Hollywood.

Day 5: Take a day trip to Santa Barbara, a charming beach town just a couple hours away. Spend the day exploring the beaches, shops, and wineries. For dinner, go to The Lark, a farm-to-table restaurant in the Funk Zone.

Day 6: Start the day with breakfast at Republique, a beautiful French bakery in Mid-City. Then, head to the LACMA to see the art exhibits and installations. For dinner, go to Nobu Malibu, a stunning oceanfront Japanese restaurant.

Day 7: Spend the day at Disneyland, riding the classic rides and checking out the new attractions. For dinner, go to Animal, a creative meat-centric restaurant in Mid-City.

Overall, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills have so many exciting places to visit and things to do, from exploring the beaches to trying the latest trendy restaurants. This itinerary should give any visitor a great taste of the best the city has to offer.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Haber. She will share her story with us below:

The owner of Arfinia, Susan Haber, created Arfinia in 2020 to honor the three beautiful, loving, sweet puppy dogs that have graced or still grace her and her daughter’s lives.

First, there was the sweetest, biggest furry white ball in the whole wide world, Freddie.

Freddie was the first Haber family dog and they think that he was a cross between a Samoyed, a Great Pyrenees, and an American Eskimo. He was big and furry and cozy and lovable as can be. Susan brought Freddie home one day for her daughter, Dani. The day Freddie came home, Dani was so excited she jumped for joy! And being an only child, Dani finally had a friend that she could play with any time she wanted.

The second dog, Curly, was Dani’s favorite dog and the love of Susan’s life. Curly was an English Springer Spaniel with big floppy ears and was as loving as can be and used to follow Susan wherever she went. Susan used to adore grooming and bathing Curly, the sweetest dog ever. Being a hunter dog, many times Curly would want to make Susan happy by running into the backyard and bringing Susan a special gift of a bird in his mouth.

At the time that Curly came into the Haber family’s life, Dani was afraid to sleep in her own bed by herself because she thought that there were ghosts coming to get her. Then a miracle happened. Every night when Susan went to tuck Dani into bed, Curly would jump in bed with Dani. Their heads both lie on the pillow together, while Dani spooned Curly all night long. And that’s how Dani learned to sleep through the night and she never had a problem sleeping in her own bed again.

And now we have a new love in our lives, Woody. Woody is a beautiful, loving, dedicated, sweet, sweet boy. Woody is a golden retriever and the most special doggie. Woody lives with Dani and her husband Jonathan, so Susan gets to hang with Woody all the time. And Susan gets to spoil Woody with all of Arfinia’s beautiful, healthy, fun, delicious products.

These sweet furry friends were always Susan’s inspiration in life and they put a smile on her face every day. Now, through Arfinia, Susan gets to honor these amazing doggies and help improve the lives of doggies everywhere, by bringing these healthy, natural, balanced, human-grade, eco-friendly, artfully-designed products to your special pup!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For three years I have been on a learning curve that goes straight up! Making healthy, natural products for doggies has been a wonderful challenge!!!

From formulating, trademarking, insurance, incorporating, designing, packaging, shipping, and e-commerce, it has been quite a learning experience and I have loved every minute of it.

I love this quote and it has been true for me in developing the Arfinia brand – “if you love your work, you will never work a day in your life”
