I need help please........Our Sparkle is 14 months old and a little over 4 lbs now and has developed aggression over resources including me. It has gotten progressively worse with her attacking me if I try to move away something she wants (treat, toy, food etc) or attacking my husband if he comes near me when she is in my lap.
This has escalated since she went through her first heat cycle in Feb and last week, we took her to the vet to discuss having her spayed tto help with that hopefully and because we do not plan to breed her so this is a healthier route.
In preparation for that they did baseline blood work to make sure that there were no underlying issues before sedating her and found a significantly high reading on her liver enzymes (AST).
So they have referred us to a specialist to do an ultrasound before moving forward with spaying and to access what the problem might be. It is scheduled for the 8th. Our vet suspects Micro-vascular Dysplasia.
So I need advice if you are still reading this. Could this liver problem be causing her aggression? If so, should we try to get help with resolving this before we get really hurt by her or wait until we get a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Also have you encounted liver disease in Yorkies and what treatment did you do? Food? Supplements?
How do you handle resource guarding? Should we hire a trainer (to train us and her?)
