Try to keep cats away from birds. Cats are susceptible to the avian influenza.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), which very rarely infects humans, is suspected to be the cause of over 60 deceased Canada geese, swans, and other birds in Plymouth.

⚠️ Avoid handling wildlife, especially birds that are dead or appear sick
⚠️ Report if you observe 5 or more dead birds
⚠️ Keep pets away from wildlife (Cats are highly susceptible to HPAI and should be kept indoors to prevent exposure to infected wildlife)

Storm kitty #2 arrived today. He was living out in the cold, but the temperatures dropped more and snow and ice arrived. He does not have an identification chip. This guy is more timid than the first one. We will work with him and keep him warm, cozy and his tummy full until he loves us.

We took in this handsome boy tonight, we will take him to the vet next week. He does not have an identification chip. Glad he beat the storm to get inside.

We received this update on Herbie. He is living the dream with his cat and dog friends.

"He was found on the street in November.. When they trapped him, he was super panicked ... but now he's a happy 14 year old man with two furry siblings and a whole bunch of people who love him to bits."

It has been difficult to safely trap fearful kitties in these below-freezing temperatures, but our team is working on it. In the meantime, we received this fun portrait of Scarlett, who we adopted this summer to a Beverly resident. She is pampered with a cat tower in front of the sunny window and toys to keep her busy throughout the night. She sleeps on the bed and is happy to have a loving home.

Patty and Selma have not had any calls about adoption. They are cuddling and playing with toys now. (Not just hiding under the bed.) We are sending them to the Rockport foster home where I hope they will be happy until they get a call. They are taking food and treats with them. Rusty Update: the former street kitty who was adopted last month and has a new outfit to protect him from the cold. His laceration/ infection behind his ear is much improved. He went to the vet yesterday for his ear check up. This sweet boy is now loved and not afraid any more.

Little kitty had his surgery on his big umbilical hernia. It went well. The kittens are battling worms. But they are doing very well socially and getting better every day. So much better than life on the street, where they were born. Still trying to trap mom.

Is there a more dynamic duo than yarn and cats? Join us this winter for a friendly fiber-arts crafting club at Cape Ann Animal Aid! You’re invited to bring your current Work-In-Progress and decompress after school or work among the kitties at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter. Sign up for any single one-hour session ($15) or save and sign up for all 4 ($50)! Your donation helps care for the shelter animals at 4 Paws Lane and gives you a little feline company while you stitch!

Please note: individuals must be working on a crafting project. Crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, felting, and other hand-held crafts are welcome. All individuals must bring their own project and supplies.

If you’d like to learn to crochet, we have some talented staff members ready to teach you! Simply bring a hook and some yarn and we will guide you through the basics. If you're not sure what you will need, let us know and we are happy to send you more information.

Send Warm, happy thoughts for Jackson and his owner. Jackson was adopted in August when his owners could no longer care for him. It seems this blind kitty will be passing soon due to heart disease. He brought joy to his owner every day as he navigated his new home without his sight. His coat was shiny and beautiful when I visited him recently. What a great life this kitty has had. Farewell Jackson.
The former owners forwarded his kitten picture to the new adopter.

Update: deworming was needed, their tummies will be happier now. One needs surgery for an umbilical hernia. They will receive the needed care.

Sonia trapped these littles at an ongoing wood pile colony situation. We have them and will take them to the vet before Cass and Bonnie C. start their taming work. Wish them luck!

Patty and Selma are looking for a new home for the new year! They have settled into a bedroom and are loving, cuddly and sleeping on the bed with their foster person. They are shy around strangers, but will do almost anything for a treat, so you can give them a treat multiple times a day and they will purr and rub on you until they go back to sleep. These kittens are trapped and were living in a wood pile. We have loving, experienced people to handle them while they learn how to not be afraid, hide or bite, and work on their social skills.
