Situational Awareness in Training
Ever notice your dog laying on their bed or sitting politely in front of you without being asked? That’s your chance to reward them for naturally offering good behavior!
Start by teaching cues like “sit” or “place” with lures and verbal commands. Once your dog has a strong reinforcement history, be ready to mark and reward when they offer these behaviors on their own. The more we catch them being good, the more they’ll want to repeat those behaviors!
Stay aware, reward often, and watch your pup shine. Have you tried rewarding unprompted good behavior? Let us know in the comments!

Why Teach “Touch” First?
Teaching “touch” is one of the best first behaviors for your puppy because it’s so versatile! Usually, “touch” means your dog boops their nose to your hand. This simple action can be a building block for so much more:
👉 Recall: It gives your dog a clear, specific spot to return to.
👉 Loose Leash Walking: Practice “touch” in motion to guide your pup step by step.
👉 Tricks: Use it to position your dog for fun tricks like weaving between your legs!
“Touch” opens the door to endless training possibilities and helps build focus, connection, and confidence in your pup. Have you tried teaching “touch” yet? Let us know in the comments!

Training Tip Tuesday: Why I Don’t Teach “Off”
As a dog trainer, I often get asked, “How do I teach my dog ‘off’ so they stop jumping on me?” Here’s the thing: teaching “off” means waiting for your dog to jump first, then asking them to get down. That creates a cycle where jumping becomes the start button for training—and that’s not what we want!
Instead, I like to catch dogs before they jump and reward them for keeping four paws on the floor. By reinforcing calm behavior early, they learn that saying hello with paws on the ground gets them all the good stuff—treats, attention, and love! 💕 This way, we break the cycle of jumping entirely and set our dogs up for success.
How do you encourage polite greetings with your pup? Let us know!

Sometimes, dog training is all about understanding behaviors and having a wide range of tools to correct them. Loose leash walking is the key to stress-free strolls with your pup! Make sure you're rewarding your dog every time they walk beside you with a relaxed leash. Consistency, patience, and plenty of treats make all the difference! 🦴
