In all seriousness though, Chewie is learning that he has way more fun and more treats if he goes with the flow. In addition to what I say in the video, I was also able to clean his eye boogies this morning. He absolutely would not allow me to do that yesterday. Blue is learning to hold positions and is getting the recall position good. For now I am giving the sit cue when he comes to me because he sometimes wants to come and sit behind me... giving this cue right before he reaches me helps him remember. Chewie is here for our Amazing Dog Board & Train Program! You may recognize him from a group class we did in Wise when he was a puppy, but he is now in the full throws of adolescence and needs some help with being a gentleman and with obedience. As soon as we came in I went to take his collar off and he attempted to bite (no contact because I knew he might). So he got a muzzle on for about 30 seconds so I could handle him safely (which he actually didn't seem to mind). But he is super smart and can be so sweet and playful. He just has to learn that some things in life aren't negotiable and he can't use teeth to protest. We'll also work on balancing out the human/canine relationship and teach him how much better life is when he actually listens. Dax, Bodhi, and Bentley-all from the same home, 2 of them adopted very close to each other trying to figure out their dynamics, 1 who can be overly excited which can cause issues for the one who is the fun police. I handle these new dynamics with no nonsense obedience. That means sit, pay attention to me, and ignore everything else. This leads to dogs being near each other without interacting. The more they get used to being in each other's presence without issue, the more they relax. Holding everyone accountable while enjoying your dogs can be quite the balancing act when you have a pack of dogs!
