Back in the garden after an unexpected week away due to a death in the family, and thereâs plenty to do!
Itâs been a hard garden season on top of a hard season in life, so I havenât shared much this summer about whatâs going on. So hereâs an update!
Lots of greens and purples this week. The cucumbers and peppers have really hit their stride, and we are swimming in shish*to, manganji, and zulu peppers. Weâre also still harvesting carrots, lettuce, scallions, beans, zucchini, summer squash, basil, eggplant, beets, and more. The tomatoes have been slow⊠weâll see if they decide to start producing before a first frost! All the potatoes are dug.
Garlic & shallots are all cured, and drying now is coriander, strawflower, and statice. The sunflowers are abundant but kind of a mess from all the wind, and weâre also cutting zinnia, larkspur, amaranth, and other lovelies. The yarrow has been a superhero this year.
Winter squash and cantaloupe are looking pretty good but the mule deer are on the prowl! A friend sent me pics of them at the church last night wandering around in their fresh velvet sets, munching away.
And of course, we are weeding. Never enough, always behind! Most seeds for fall harvest are in (radish, carrot, greens & more), and weâre in the final stretch of weekly subscriptions (which we had to cut back on after 4 weeks due to lower production this year).
Thank you for following along & supporting us! đ
