Meet Sayid, our male fennec fox. On your next visit to the zoo, you can see Sayid in his habitat in the Wonders of Nature Building. Despite being the smallest canid, fennec foxes have massive ears. Their large ears are just one of several adaptations that make them desert specialists. Their ears allow them to track prey underground more easily and also help regulate their body temperature by dissipating heat.
Contributing to our Animal Care Fund can help support Sayid's care. All funds contributed to our Animal Care Fund go directly to the care of the animals at Ross Park Zoo. You can give online at https://ow.ly/SCz150SQLUU or mail a check to the Ross Park Zoo, 185 Park Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13903.

On July 28, 1875, Erastus and Cornelia Ross deeded 90 acres of land, becoming Binghamton's first public park and home to America's 5th zoo. Ross Park has long been a place where the community comes together. This has included entertainment at the park's amphitheater, which was originally a wooden structure located by Park Creek. As a result of flooding, the new amphitheater was built and has continued to serve as a site for movies, concerts, and much more.
This weekend, we're celebrating the creation of Ross Park and the Ross Park Zoo! On July 28, 1875, Erastus and Cornelia Ross donated the land to the City of Binghamton that would become Ross Park. As we reflect on the nearly 150-year history of the park and look forward to the next 150, we want everyone to be able to enjoy everything Ross Park and the Ross Park Zoo has to offer. So, on Saturday, July 27th, and Sunday, July 28th, we are capping admission at $18.75 per family. Come out and show your support for our community's zoo!
You can help preserve this community asset by joining our 1875 Club! Sign up today to start making your monthly gift of $18.75. https://ow.ly/z3YJ50SLvpj

We are saddened to share the passing of Zippy, our cougar. Our dedicated animal care staff had noticed a decrease in Zippy’s weight and appetite. Unable to determine the cause of the change in her appetite, Zippy was sedated this morning, so our veterinarian could complete a thorough exam. Through ultrasound and blood tests, Zippy’s change in condition was determined to be the result of kidney failure. In consultation with the zoo’s veterinarian, Zippy was humanely euthanized. Zippy was a force of nature, often seen prowling her habitat. Zippy came to the zoo 15 years ago after being surrendered by a family in California who believed she was abandoned. Unable to be released back into the wild, the California Department of Fish and Game arranged to bring Zippy to the Ross Park Zoo. Cougars are known for their fierce nature, and Zippy was no exception. Her unique personality was felt throughout the zoo as she would often be found 'stalking' visitors and staff. As she grew older, her activity level decreased, but she still managed to capture the squirrel that mistakenly entered her habitat, reminding us of her predator instincts. We consider it a privilege to have been a part of Zippy's life over the past 15 years while she called Ross Park Zoo home. In honor of Zippy, we urge you to remember a slogan known to many wildlife rehabilitators: “If you care, leave it there.” Zippy was more than just a cougar; she was our reminder of the importance of letting wildlife be wild, a responsibility we all share.
We agree with our red wolves Notch, Hunter and Max. This year's Feast for the Beasts is gonna be a "Howl" of good time! You don't want to miss out! The deadline to order your tickets is Thursday May 16th. Get your tickets today! https://ow.ly/YBPg50RFvlL #FOMO #Feast #ProtectWildlife
