Wilderness Trails Zoo

Wilderness Trails Zoo Wilderness Trails Zoo is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Come visit us and take a stroll through our shaded paths and see our resident animals!

Our expert staff is always available to help you enjoy your time and make it both educational and memorable! Wilderness Trails Zoo opened in 1991. Our trails take visitors through 56 acres of natural surroundings to see exotic animals such as primates, zebras, lions, reptiles, and parrots. There is a petting area and parakeet encounter for an up close and personal adventure with our animals. Guest

s can also imagine life as a bird-eating spider or a red-tailed boa constrictor in our “Rainforest Experience.” There are also feed stations throughout the zoo to feed animals such as goats and fish. After feeding the animals around the zoo, your family can relax and enjoy your lunch in our “Picnic Pavilion.” If the kids still have energy after their zoo adventure, they can pretend to be monkeys and swing and hang on the playground equipment.

SMILEEEEE!!
Big kitty Kato caught “smiling” by his keeper Hannah!
This is his “I like this smell” face when he’s given fun items to sniff! Do you know, scientifically , why he makes this face?
Tigers have a Jacobson organ in the roof of their mouth and use a behavior called the flehman response to investigate scents and pheromones. This response involves curling their lips upwards towards their nose once they find a scent! What a funny face it makes!

Why are zoos important?

These endangered parrots were reintroduced back into their natural habitat thanks to the efforts of captive breeding programs!
This brings their wild population numbers to their highest number ever since 1973!
Incredible!!

Happy World Wildlife Day!
Did you know the bobcat is a species of Lynx?
In the first photo we have one of our bobcats, Lynx rufus, and the second photo is one of our Eurasian Lynx, Lynx lynx.
The bobcats are the smallest species of lynx and common throughout southern Canada, the continental United States and northern Mexico.
The Eurasian lynx are the largest of the lynx species and range from central and northern Europe across Asia up to Northern Pakistan and India.

These gorgeous photos of our bobcat and lynx were taken by our friend Bradley Ary, the Great Lakes Lensman!
