Can our staff draw our logo? It’s not as easy as it seems! Who’s was your favorite?
We did it! Because of YOU, we were able to reach our goal of $20,000 for animals at ARL this Draft Day. Every donation counted towards reaching our big goal, and on behalf of all the animals and staff, we can't thank you enough for helping us save double the lives together. Your donation is directly supporting the 190+ animals currently under our care between the shelter and our foster families who are counting on food, medication, enrichment, and so much more.
Check out this message from the development team, our staff, and even a special note of gratitude from our mural artist, David Reimer Art!
Cancer Couldn't Dull His Sparkle
Like the other stories we have shared today, Hank "the pittopotamus" was first found as a stray in the city. But his story truly began when his fur mom, Stephanie, brought him home on Christmas Eve for a lifetime of love to follow.
Incredibly, once Hank found his new home, he didn't leave his past behind him. Being as gentle and friendly as they come, Hank quickly became an ARL ambassador in his local community, attending events with his fur mom and helping people learn about the shelter. Yet looking at him, you would never know that Hank was fighting his own battles after being diagnosed with the word no pet owner ever wants to here: cancer.
Since crossing the rainbow bridge in 2021, his legacy of joy and resilience continues to inspire people in his community and has woven friendships that are bound to last a lifetime.
Animals like Hank remind us that when there is hope, there is a way. Today, as you read this, there are over 180 animals being cared for by ARL that are holding on to that same hope, and you can help brighten the lives of these animals with a DOUBLED donation thanks to a generous donor matching all gifts up to $20,000.

He Became a Hometown Hero
Biggie Smalls has it all these days - A luxurious couch for day naps, a fenced-in yard to unleash his zoomies, and best of all, a family who loves him. But life wasn't always this way.
In fact, he was first discovered tied to his finder's porch with no sign of an owner in sight. We may never know his full story, but we will always know how grateful he was to come to the ARL for his new chance on life.
Not only has Biggie Smalls lived each day to the fullest since then, but amazingly, he recently paid his good deed forward: by alerting his family of a blazing fire on the neighbor's porch just before it spread to their home.
We know not every ARL alumni is out in their community saving lives, but we know animals just like Biggie Smalls are making a big impact on their families and communities every day, all thanks to their journeys that began right here at ARL.
Today, you can keep Biggie Smalls's act of kindness going by making a DOUBLED gift for animals just like him thanks to a generous donor matching all gifts up to $20,000.

Have you ever wondered who rescued who?
Have you ever wondered who rescued who? If so, we're here to tell you you're not alone.
Take Buddy the Pomeranian and his owner Charlie, for example. Buddy was brought to ARL as a matted stray while Charlie was seeking a new furry companion following the back-to-back losses of his wife and pet. Both experiencing major and unexpected life changes, they had no idea just how much they needed each other’s company until they met for the first time.
Through the last few years spent together, the pair have been through many challenges together, ultimately thriving through it all. Yet, like many of us who have found comfort in the presence of a pet, Charlie still wonders to this day who rescued who.
Buddy and Charlie’s story may be unique, but every day, hundreds of animals begin their journey to a brighter future right here at ARL. During our special day of giving, Draft Day, you can double your impact on supporting the care of animals just like Buddy thanks to a generous donor matching all gifts up to $20,000.

Meet Sir Foxington IV! While he may be an old man at approximately 12 years old, he has the unwavering personality of a kitten! Senior cats tend to be overlooked in shelters, often being stuck in the shelter for longer than the average cat! Help us find this sweet old man a loving home!

Meet Sherry & Jerry!
Sherry & Jerry came into the ARL as strays that were shut down and scared 150 days ago. Our staff worked with them daily to teach them that humans weren't so bad, but the shelter environment proved to be too scary for them regardless.
It wasn't until we were able to get them into a foster home that they were really able to break out of their shell! Now they're happy and ready to go to their forever home!
Contact us at [email protected] to set up a meeting with these two today!
and if you want to help us with more kittens like these two, find out more at https://berksarl.org/foster/
Some of our fosters have been in foster care for up to 150 days! This weekend is your chance to help them finally go to their forever home!

This Foster Friday, meet Experiment 626!
Experiment 626 has crash landed and is looking for his ohana! Zipping around through the stars is fun but when its time for bed, cuddles, and a good book, he is looking for the right people to make him feel at home. He is a wild child with a silly streak, but can be a little shy of new people. Just go slow with this little space alien and he will give you his whole heart! Remember, ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten. Come and take home your new best friend today!
Swiss was found in the backyard of an abandoned home. He was thin, with his ribs showing, and his hip bones were sticking out. Becoming our long-stay resident due to his behavior, Swiss could have a second chance in life thanks to ARL's Behavior Modification Team.
You can help animals like Swiss by donating to the ARL this Giving Tuesday. All donations are being matched up to $15,000 and any gift of $60 or more is eligible to receive our 2023 holiday ornament as a beautiful reminder of the support you’ve given to the animals under our care.
