Holistic Dog Trainer in the Wiregrass area!

As we bring the pup in, it’s important that we have a good set up so introductions can go really well.
We’re Back!!! With a new little assistant which is more like a little liability… but join us as we start our training journey in Birmingham!! We are starting off with a dog we plan to foster to adopt.
Hey yall! We are settled and are officially opening back up at the beginning of July in our new location in Birmingham!!
We can still support the wiregrass area on weekends we are back in town.
The last weekend of June, we will be in town for the weekend! So if anyone needs a tune up or support reach out!
Our July Workshop was a success! We met so many different dogs and people! I have decided that when I come down to visit family in Dothan I will host another workshop. I will probably aim for once a month! I will post it here when I get a date and will also email it to all on my email list!!
Again it will only be a workshop and will only do privates when I come down if someone feels they have an emergency. If that is the case you will need to email/text/message me so it comes to my attention.
Today was so fun! I really miss training and I want to thank you all for trusting me with your pets and knowledge!
Hi All, Since I will be in town for a few days in July, I have decided to offer a 1 day 2 hour workshop. I can offer one off workshops like this one when I come down to Dothan on occasion. When that happens I will send a newsletter email much like this one.
I can not offer private training as I have moved to the Birmingham area. I have halted all training as my life and focus has taken a turn to be with my kid.
Workshop will be held at Westgate. (The small loop behind the kids play area at kiwanis park. There is an opening that leads you to the tennis courts. We will meet at that large opening field area)
This workshop is for outside issues such as reactivity to people, dogs, over excitement, leash skills, anxious dogs, commands, Service dog training, etc
Workshop Date:
Wednesday July 26th 4-6pm
This workshop will not focus on indoor issues such as potty training, puppy issues such as crate training, mouthiness, barking out the windows, and other unwanted indoor behaviors.
Price for this workshop is $225. You will learn how to manage your dog when they are overstimulated, how to walk on a leash, how to keep your dog engaged with you and become a master at reading your dog's body language so you can best know how to respond.
Payment: I accept cash, check made out to Aaron Mills, and venmo. I can take card payments however there will be a 3.6% processing fee added to the total. Minimum of 8 participants.
Hey everyone, I’m still on a training sabbatical. Things with life are just too complicated to start back.
We have had a lot of losses as of late and it has been hard to hold. Many of you have met Liam as he was my training partner. He accompanied me to many appointments and helped rehabilitate hundreds of dogs over the last 6+ years. Due to cancer we lost liam within a week of finding out about his diagnosis. A very close friend (amazing trainer that trained me) recently had to put her training and service dog down as well. These dogs were more than just family.. they both were rehabilitated dogs themselves who were super reactive to other dogs. They worked hard and made our lives better.
Prince is the last dog we have and I feel like we are starting all over as prince has picked up some reactivity to both dogs and people. Since moving to Alabama Liam was my primary work dog so prince didn’t get much training and now that I’ve stepped away definitely hasn’t gotten much practice.
I just wanted to share here about our pups as you all have been my dog community and some of you know how sweet and spunky Liam was. He will be missed.
As many of you know I have been working with Uptown Paws in Dothan on training and educating their staff on dog body language! With this said, I recommend this place for any of my clients for your boarding and/or daycare needs.
The facility is beautiful and the knowledge that these individuals have inquired while I’ve worked with them is going to be instrumental to the care they provide your dog.. it is not a free-for-all. They watch every interaction the dogs have and have learned to “police” everyone and keep everyone safe!
Is your dog a bit shy and need someone to step in when feeling scared by another dog? Is your dog a little too rough when playing and could benefit from listening to the other dogs in the social group? Do you want your dogs manners to stay intact even while at daycare? Do you struggle with training your pup and could benefit from your dog learning how to walk on leash, how to wait and how to come when called?
Uptown Paws is the place for you. This place truly cares about your dogs and wants to provide the very best for them…

Hi all, I had an individual reach out to me, informing me that they need to rehome their dog due to personal reasons. He is a two-year-old Siberian husky named cash. The individual shared that he is mild mannered and super sweet once he gets to know you and there may need to be some time to warm up. I have not met this dog, so I don’t know anything about them. I am just giving a platform to share the word. If you’re interested in knowing more contact DeAndre. 260-449-1394
A little entertainment for your viewing pleasure ☺️☺️ Holland is a fan of Prince doing tricks!
Enjoyed our family vacation to Charleston SC to see family. What a nice way to start the new year.
I got to see little Roxy this week!!! She is so sweet and gave me the sweetest happiest greeting when she saw me! This is what makes this job so worth it!!
November has been fun! Now just a few more weeks of training before my sabbatical 😆..
Hi everyone, for the month of December I am training uptown paws staff around dog behavior and body language. If you want an hour of free walking training for your dog, let me know and you can bring them up there between 9:30-10:30am Mondays and 8:30-9:30am on Thursdays. There may be afternoon times as well like 1-2 or 2:30-3:30, but just message me if you are interested!
Hi Everyone!! I wanted to inform everyone that I will be backing away from training in the upcoming months. This was a difficult decision to make as I LOVE training all of your babies and helping you all learn body language of dogs.
I will still help where I can and will continue to see existing clients until they fade out. However I won’t be able to see the volume I currently see. It will only be select weekends and 4 appointments a month.
I am unable to continue to do the 20 hour work week while also being a stay at home mom. I do not have childcare or family support to help out. So having my husband come home from work and go back out when I finish my client makes his day longer and is almost impossible if I have 4 hours of work excluding commuting time.
With all of this said I will keep you posted if circumstances change and I am able to take on more. Thank you all for the support and the love!
When you look around the corner and you get this… “we’re not doing anything.. 👀 “ 🤨🤨
I’ve had some awesome clients as of late.. Sorry I haven’t been updating my page. It’s been a busy few weeks/ months. Meet Shelby great Dane doodle; tater tot the cutest thing ever and Vlad the big Dobey… I’ve seen other pups however I didn’t get photos of them unfortunately.. we’ve worked on puppy manners, walking and fear of people.. yesterday I saw two Aussie shepherds who had a little reactivity on base in fort Rucker. I have enjoyed working with all of you and am excited for the clients ahead.
IN NEED POST!!!***** SERIOUS ADOPTERS only
Hi everyone, I have a client that adopted a pittie mix almost 3 months ago. When they brought her home to meet the pack of dogs she would live with, she would do just fine and then all of the sudden snap and attack one of the dogs. I recommended getting a rubber muzzle and continue with trainings with me weekly however the family feels it’s best to rehome her for the safety of their other dogs (a few older dogs and a few tiny dogs that would suffer if ”Shelby” attacked them).
Shelby came from a rescue in Texas (as they previously lived there) now lives in Dothan. Rescue said she was fine with dogs and people. The rescue only had her 10 days (in my experience, dogs do not rock the boat in places they are outnumbered and unfamiliar with) Since getting her, Shelby has been fearful of some people and has tried to nip. She has also gone after dogs who are not even engaging with her.
If anyone would like to adopt/rehab this dog she is in need!! She will need some serious training for dealing with other dogs and until we can get her randomized attacks under control, I’d recommend she be an only dog. She’s young, 2-3 years old.
My best guess is she did this in her first home and that’s the reason she was rehomed. The shelter didn’t see it because she was only there 10 days before being adopted by my client. She is super sweet and loving.. if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I never would have thought this was a dog with a behavioral issue.
The current owner is looking for someone who is not fearful of dogs, someone who can be very strict and regimented, someone who will not give up on her, and someone who is looking for a very close companion. As she will need a strong secure bond with someone who knows her triggers.
Please share if you know anyone to fit that bill!
Met this pup today.. He warmed up to me by the end of the visit...
I will offer 50% of training sessions for anyone who adopts one of these babies or if you foster I will give you a free training session. If you have the room to support please give the humane society a call.
Uno's Home for Wayward Cats and Dogs committed to two dogs this morning (Ruby and Frank) then committed to two more (king and Johnny) after this collage was made and animal sos has also committed to dog (not pictured) that means we have just 8 dogs ! 8 dogs needing placement if you can pull off saving any nows a great time to do so! The more space we have open in our shelter the better time to get some things rocking and rolling! ❤️🥰 calling all licensed rescues!!! 📢

Hi all, I am slowly making my way through my waitlist!! I’m taking about 2-3 people a week so if you want on the list just email me!
The baby is 3 months old now and I’m his favorite 😉 which is why I will only be away from him 3 hours max a day.. so be patient as I reach out to everyone in the upcoming month!
Man, I wish I could video when I first meet a dog and then after we are done with a session or two so you can see the shift! I’m all about safety, so videoing my introduction is the last thing on my mind..
I LOVE seeing a huge makeover in behavior and this week that award goes to Sooie of Dothan… A heeler who was reacting out of nervousness where it escalated to her biting people.. she’s not out of the woods yet but there is a huge difference in her tuning in with her mama! Her trust has also grown stronger in her mama..
Here is a client photo of Sooie now so dependent on her mom and allowing herself to take a back seat and let her mom lead the way!
For all of your viewing pleasure 🥰 Prince meeting his little brother for the first time.. extremely slowly.. 😉
Maternity leave has officially started! Perfectly timed I might add. Now time to get off these swollen feet and rest a bit before the little one arrives.
Once again I will be back taking clients in September, so if you need me please email me at [email protected]
I will be checking messages/emails/voicemails periodically and can place you on my list of people to connect with when I get back!
Have a great summer!! See you in the fall!!
This little guy is ending his stay tomorrow… everyone who has met him has told me they would take him in a heartbeat ☺️… he will be missed in the Mills household…
Moose gets a little “me time” with his ball after a good day at work ☺️
After walking 20 minutes during session and getting corrections for staring! Much better reactions!! So proud! Moose also was phenomenal. He was a true work dog today 😉
Starting a session with Chaos around reactivity due to excitement.. Moose was able to be my little helper today! 🥰
Fun Thursday at the Mills residence!
One year ago today we pulled up to our new house in Dothan Alabama. I was quite nervous about continuing my dog training business here as I know the lifestyles are quite different. -in California you don’t have your own space so have to be out in public with your dog a lot. In Alabama I expected most people have the space for their dog to live comfortably without really having to leave the house..
I had several people tell me the need is here and I was welcomed into the dog world almost immediately by other trainers and rescues. This year has been such a fun experience getting to know you all and your furry friends.. thank you for such a wonderful first year in the Wiregrass!
This handsome fella is getting a lively outing at the local Brewery In Dothan… live music, people and dogs Oh My!!! ☺️☺️

As we bring the pup in, it’s important that we have a good set up so introductions can go really well.

One of Moose’s boarding needs is public outings as he lives with a college age person who wants to be able to take him anywhere she can. So we take him with us on our errands for practice! **Also because he’s SOO cute, people come into our space and talk to him and almost demand to touch him… so we fix that by adding this cute little bandana ☺️.. this SHOULD help with people wanting to interact with him so we can keep him calm and teach him the right way to be in public.. aka ignore everything unless given the command to do otherwise.. 👍🏼👍🏼
How to meet other dogs if your pup is nervous, timid, etc! It is SO IMPORTANT to advocate for your dog in all situations especially when they are timid or nervous.. we put her on a leash because it forces her to get moving and not sit by the door and cower.. her body language is so cautious and fearful (curvature of her rounded back and literal tail between her legs) we want her to know she’s safe and how brave she is for trusting us… when done correctly this should build her confidence “I went out and met dogs and nothing bad happened!” What a wonderful thing to take from an outing instead of “I was so scared and no one listened to me.. I feel violated… that was terrible!!”
Part of me wishes my dogs would have such dependency to just follow me wherever I go regardless of distraction.. the other part of me already gets annoyed that I can’t go to the bathroom alone..
I love watching them play.. Prince pulls out a side of Liam that keeps him young.. many people get nervous when they hear (Liam especially) dogs play this loudly.. how can I tell this is play? 1) they are both very bouncy.. and even playing “clash of the titans” (Liam is a wrestler while prince loves the zoomies) 2) other than prince rolling on the ground liam never really closes his mouth on prince, it’s all just noise. 3) when liam is done prince listens and settles down before encouraging him to play again.. (pauses are good in play.. it allows for a check in) 4) prince sneezes a few times which can mean excited, happy, or submissive.. lovely socialization skills.. 🥰🥰
Roxie loves playing with dogs.. she might even be a little obsessed at times.. one thing we’re trying to learn while being here is when other dogs tell you to chill or back off be respectful of their space and listen… again very human toddler-esk.. teaching puppies to learn social cues is very important!!
This is a long video fyi. However there are some great things happening here.. 1) she has learned she gets something really tasty if she listens to commands and she ends up getting her bone back so it’s a win win as long as she doesn’t try to fight me. 2) she doesn’t try to kill my idiot of a cat when he jumps the fence to get to Roxie’s food, bone, etc. (some dogs who are possessive over their stuff will go after anything that’s in the area.. hence why we are using the fence to kee prince and Liam from bothering her. ) 3) biggest change of all - her body language!! She’s more engaged/ focused on me and what I’m asking of her, she’s learned the game and has gained some confidence around what I’m doing and even prances around with her wagging tail 🥰.. she is no longer getting small, being rigid, or holding her attention on her bone as long!! Way to go Roxie..
This video is a bit more boring.. she has one little flench when Chris walks by her or even touches her paw. (This is major progress from the first time we tried this) now one thing that Roxie’s parents have said is if you move past her she has gone after you and tried to attack you.. this video shows us moving about the kitchen as if we are cooking, washing dishes, using the dishwasher, etc. Her body language is still closed off which is hilarious because she’s the one who keeps putting herself right in the action! I believe towards the end you see her tense up and think about what she should do and I call her name in a high pitch voice to help get her out of that state of mind.. you’re voice is a wonderful tool to change the mood of the room or activity!
