****Transport Guidelines
Every animal that boards transport is required to have an interstate health certificate.
* These are a USDA certified document filled out completely. This is required by law and also protects everyone involved- the person sending the dog, the transporters, and the receiving rescue or adoptive parents to help ensure the dog is not contagious.
* Along with the Health Certificate, we also require Medical Records to show vaccine and f***l history. History must include Bordetella (Kennel Cough) at least 10 days prior to transport, Rabies (canine 14 weeks or older) with tag, and DA2PPv (5 in 1 shot) or DA2PPvL (7 in 1 shot). 7 in 1 shot is required for dogs going into Maine. All shots/vaccinations should be up to date and clearly marked on the paperwork and Health Certificate if possible. All animals should be treated if necessary for any intestinal parasites, coccidia, giardia, and hook at least three days prior to transport. The dogs should complete a full round of treatment as prescribed by the vet before transport starts. Negative f***l is a must. The negative f***l must be listed on the Health Certificate or the animals paperwork. Lyme and influenza shots are not a requirement. A health certificate only states that an animal is free from infectious diseases and current on all vaccinations. It does not indicate that the animal itself is in good health.
* If during the transport an animal becomes ill, the rescue will be notified immediately. If the animal requires vet care, the sending rescue will be responsible for the bill.
* Animals with upper respiratory infections, kennel cough, coccidia, giardia, ringworms, sarcoptic mange, or any other contagious conditions not considered healthy will not be allowed on transport. That also includes any animal that are filthy , has fleas or ticks, or is soaked in its own urine.
*Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old and have 2 rounds of shots. USDA regulations allow puppies to be transported at 8 weeks and older.
*Every animal needs a copy of their medical records inside a 9.5”x11” manilla envelope and a copy of the hc taped to the front. Each envelope must have the following written on the outside- name and phone of the sending group on the top left corner, name of pet in the top middle, name and phone of receiving person/rescue in top right corner. We ask that you only send the manilla folder along with all documents inside with the animal day of transport. Space is limited and we want to make the most of what we have.
*The only items accepted on transport is the canine and required medical records. Please send all baggage/ luggage ahead of your dog via FedEx or UPS. We feel toys and blankets are choking hazards and will not be aloud in the crate with your dog. Any toy or sample of dog food must be small enough to fit into the envelope (9.5×11) with the paperwork. Please don’t try to fit something the size of a Volkswagen into a 9.5’X11” envelope. If you are planning on sending your dogs most favorite bed, we’re gonna have a problem. If what you need to send is so important for the animal to have, send it ahead of the canine via FedEx, UPS or USPS.
* Any medications that need to be given during transport are fine as long as we have a separate sheet outlining what medication, time to administer and any side effects. We cannot, however, transport a dog that is on an antibiotic medication for less than 3 days ( Cephalexin, Doxycycline,Albon , Baytril, etc.)
*All animals are required to have some sort of ID whether it’s a tag on a collar or one that can be written on. Write the name of the dog and a current phone number that’s legible. We thank you and look forward to saving lives with you!
