Hi all cat and coffee lovers we need your help!!

Gatos has several adult cats that keep getting overlooked when the younger cats come on board. And while it’s great that we’ve gotten some quick homes for teenagers, our adults are becoming very sad at not getting their forever family. We’re coming upon another holiday season that our kitties might not have a family. we would love for you to come by and meet Prince Albert, bandit, Oreo, who is the most wonderful, small female tuxedo cat, Olivia a spectacular tortoiseshell cat and her brother Tyson. If you’re looking for an adult cat or know someone who might be, please come on over have a great cup of coffee and spend some time getting to know these cats. We think they’re really awesome cats and just don’t understand why they keep getting overlooked. 😔

In most cases, cats will figure out how to use shelters on their own. Here are a few things you can do to attract them if it doesn't seem like your cats are using the shelter:

▪️Be patient. Some cats need a lot of time to get comfortable with a new shelter.
▪️Loosely fill the shelter ½ to ¾ full of straw, NOT HAY. Replace the straw every year.
▪️Remove any door flaps on the shelter. While doorway flaps help keep cold air out and warm air in, they should not be added until after your cats are used to going in and out of the shelter.
▪️Do not place food in or near the shelter. Cats instinctively avoid sleeping near food as it attracts other cats and wildlife (predators).
▪️Location is important. Place the shelter where your cats are already hanging out. More feral/less social cats typically want to shelter farther away from humans. The more secluded the shelter, the more likely cats are to use it.
▪️Place the shelter near natural cover, as opposed to out in the open where your cats may not feel safe. Cats prefer to move along walls, hedges or other natural barriers and boundaries. Place the shelter under or up against a building, fence, tree, porch, bush or some type of overhang.
▪️Place the shelter with the entrance facing away from the wind, rain and snow.
▪️Make sure the shelter is on a flat surface. A wobbly shelter could discourage cats from entering.
▪️It’s possible that your cats have another shelter where they feel safe. They may already have a shed, crawlspace or some other shelter they prefer.
▪️When all else fails, try a new location, but only after giving your cats plenty of time to explore and get used to the current location.

Hello Birmingham Cat Lovers and supporters of and - we are getting more desperate to find a home for Dippy. With each day he is really struggling to find his place within the group and he’s inappropriately chasing some of the other cats. He’s such a good boy and has loved his foster siblings but right now he’s done being a part of the Gatos family. If someone has the ability and is willing to foster this boy as we work to find a home it would be super-helpful. We are reaching out directly to our community because we are unable to find a foster within our network. Please ask your friends and family if they are in a position to foster an adult cats. Kittens are easy, everyone wants to foster a kitten Adults are so hard and deserve the same chances at happiness as the littles.

Ok all our Gatos followers we have an adoption challenge-a pair of our cats that are the most in need of a new family. Meet Dippy and Churo. For those who knew Kelli Steward who founded Gatos, you knew that when she passed, she left behind her own beloved cats. While they all got wonderful homes, one named Churo had to be returned due to allergies. And Churo came with a big brother named Dippy.
Recently, we have found that they are showing signs of stress. Churo is sleeping a lot and getting a bit depressed and her brother Dippy is getting anxious and acting out. We are making them our top priority to find the perfect forever home.
If there’s a family out there looking to add two wonderful cats to their home, we will offer a special deal to adopt them both , a BOGO, a Gatos T shirt, and a free pass for another Gatos visit.
If you think you might be interested, please visit the Kitty Kat Haven rescue website to fill out an application and come on over to Gatos to meet them. They are truly wonderful cats who hold a very special place in our hearts.

As we head into a new weekend at gatos we are so excited to let everyone know we have 3 new kitties joining us tomorrow. Tuck, Shyla and Tigger are 7 mos old and, after a moment to settle in, are bound to bring some teenage energy to the cafe! We would love to share them with you if you find yourself with some time for coffee and cats this weekend 😊 Let’s make the new kids feel special and maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there looking for a cat to add to their family this weekend. Our two long timers, Oreo and Scarlett, are sure hoping for a home for the holidays.

Love was in the air at Gatos and our cats were loved on all day! Dippy tried to stow away with his new baby friend but alas the gig was up and he had to stay behind with his Gatos family. We assured him his day would come soon! We had such great visitors-thank you all for making us a part of your weekend 😊

It was great day for Mama Jupiter who now has a forever family!! We are so happy to have hosted mama J. until her family came along and we can now all smile at the thought of MJ enjoying wonderful cat dreams tonight in her new home.

This is Oreo - a super sweet cat hanging out at Gatos waiting for her forever home. Oreo was just an older kitten when she had a litter of kittens 😞 Her babies were all adopted and now Oreo is hoping for a family of her own.

Gatos is on a mission! We have found forever homes for 311 cats so far and while that is wonderful there are so so many more that need homes. And the kitties currently in our care are waiting each and every day to find parents who will want to bring them home and spoil them silly! We are working hard to see to it that each kitty in our care has a new family in time for Christmas (or Hanukkah) so we want to sweeten the pot and offer a free Gatos and Beans t-shirt with each cat adoption between now and the end of 2024! And we are also discounting the adoption fee for our bonded pairs that need to be adopted together so you get a great FREE T shirt PLUS not one but TWO incredible cats!
