We find warm, loving forever homes for Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes. Our dogs are housed in private foster homes.

We are a Golden Retriever Rescue Group managed and operated 100% by volunteers and we rely solely on donations to operate. We do not have a shelter building. We have monthly meet & greets to meet the dogs and you can set up meetings by appointment after you submit your application on our website. We can’t believe Moss hasn’t been adopted yet. This 3 year old, 50ish pound boy is house-trained and crate-trained. He’s happy and spunky, and loves to play with other dogs. Adoption announcement! In 2013, a couple adopted a beautiful flat-coat retriever named Maverick from AGB, and they adored him. When he crossed the rainbow bridge, they knew they needed another, and AGB had just gotten one year old Banks from a shelter. The kennel staff reported that Banks was an absolute sweetheart, and this couple didn’t waste any time coming to meet him. His mom said, "he is a very friendly, affectionate, and playful fellow.” Nico, as he is now called, has started weekly training and it is going great. AGB loves our adopters who come back again and again! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped save this sweet boy.

Adoption announcement! Dolly came to AGB from a south Alabama shelter. Senior dogs are a special group of orphans. It’s difficult for some to adopt an older dog not knowing how long they will have with them. But Dolly was exactly what her new family wanted. Her new dad wrote, "We fell in love with Dolly the moment we saw her photo. This spirited senior lady has brought so much joy to our home! She fit right in with our family, quickly befriending our Golden Retriever, Frankie, and even our cat, Gus. At 8 years old, Dolly has the energy to run circles around us but also cherishes her cozy down time. We couldn't be happier with our sweet senior girl and encourage others to open their hearts to adopting senior Golden Retrievers - they have so much love to give!"

The name is Denver and I've been a wandering man. I probably didn't come all the way from Denver though. I was picked up as a stray and AGB took me in and said they were going to find me a home, sweet home! That sounds terrific. I've been on my own for a little bit and the vet found out I have heart worms which means I need to go through treatment and take it easy for a while. I'm in temporary boarding right now. AGB really relies on donations to help orphans like me with heart worm treatment and I'd sure appreciate your help with donations so I can get totally healthy. I'm an energetic guy so keeping quiet for a bit will be hard. I'm also really clever and wily enough to try to weasel out of collars and stretch my legs on my own. The vet gave me all my other shots and told me I weigh just under 65 pounds. I'll be neutered and microchipped. In fact, I'll be just one handsome, golden guy shortly looking to find a best buddy to have fun with and to share a home of my own. Did I mention I'm only a year and a half old? Lots of time for us to be best friends! Looking forward to meeting you. And thanks for helping me out with getting rid of these heart worms.

Adoption announcement! Sweet Daisy has found her forever home. Her new mom knew Daisy was special from the day they met. She says everyone who comes in contact with Daisy absolutely loves her. Mom and Daisy are the best of friends and came together at just the right time. Daisy loves car rides, walks, play dates, shopping, and going to her favorite coffee spot for puppuccinos. Mom says she is the ultimate social butterfly. Way to go Daisy!

Adoption announcement! Sweet Rice came to AGB from a shelter. Once treated for heartworms she was adopted by her new mom. Now Reese, she will forever be safe, loved, and home. Her new mom says it best. "This past holiday time and new year are truly special. Thanks to the wonderful people at Adopt A Golden Birmingham who saved this sweet girl from the streets of Birmingham and made sure she was returned to good health. I now have a very loving, sweet, cuddle bug. Over the past 40+ years, my husband and I had several Goldens and several Golden mixes. When my last 2 little dogs passed away, I knew I wanted to adopt one more Golden before I got too old. I missed the happy-go-lucky personality of a Golden and the endless adoration. Reese has tons of it, and we are working on the happy-go-lucky part. Every day we pass a new milestone. We have lots to teach each other which makes this new year exciting and tons of fun. We have the cuddling part down pat. She even is a total sweetie to my 2 cats. Hello, my friends, my name is Bubba. Do you know what being named 'Bubba' means? Bubba is a nickname of a Southern male and also means brother. And I'd like to be a brother to some other pups and human pups very much. I'm from the South and I'm also a male. Perfect name, don't ya think? I'm a big ole guy just under 80 pounds and I'm very, very smart and I love to learn. I'm two years old and I just found out I have heart worms and AGB is making sure I'm getting the treatment I need. I'll be done by February and ready to begin 2025 with my new family and a new outlook. My white coat needs a little attention but I'm very handsome. I'm asking if you would kindly donate to my medical fund so when I get my new home, I'll be your wonder dog! AGB is paying for it but they need donations to do it. Lots of new orphans have heart worms and need treatment and it's expensive. I have to rest now because of the treatment but I love long walks and exploring. Of course, I'm house trained and I've also been neutered plus I've gotten all my shots. You will make 2025 perfect for me, and I hope for you, when I become your pup! Happy New Year, folks! Our new little girl Gracie is going to be a Momma! The vet counted up to seven little bundles of joy just about to arrive. Gracie was on the euthanasia list at a rural shelter and we scooped up this little doll promising her a new, safe and loving home. This young Momma is going to need some help so we've decided to throw her a 'puppy' shower to get this family started on the right paw.
