GEAR SUPPLIES NEEDED!
When our newly arrived orphans leave our vet partners, headed for their foster home or boarding, they get all dressed up in AGB attire to keep them safe and sticking close to our volunteers. A well fitted harness, collar with AGB identification tag, and a leash that says Adopt Me are standard issue. We reuse these as orphans find their forever homes, but we're finding ourselves running a little short with more dogs coming in, and of course the inevitable wear and tear over time. Thankfully, Max and Neo offers a fabulous bulk discount to rescues purchasing these supplies! While we are all set on harnesses thanks to your generosity with our Amazon gift registry, we now need your help to restock collars and leashes...and buying direct at the rescue rate from Max and Neo helps us stretch your donations further.

Please consider donating to our Max and Neo Gear Goal at this link:

Our pups and volunteers thank you!

Adoption announcement! Bo, now called Bruno, and his brother came to Adopt A Golden as young puppies who dumped on the finder's property. Their finder contacted Adopt a Golden and we brought these two precious puppies in. It only took a couple of days to find each of them a home. Bruno is living the life with his new humans and his canine and feline friends. Bruno's new mom says he "brings light to any room he's in and we can't imagine our family without him! He loves pup cups, fetch, birdwatching alongside our cats, and an occasional snuggle and belly rub. He's still on the hunt for the most perfect stick to ever fall from the trees in our yard, but we think he may be getting pretty close to finding it. We've enjoyed watching him explore the world thus far and can't wait to see what the future holds! We're so grateful for the wonderful work that AGB is doing to connect furry companions to their forever homes!”

The sweetest obituary for a very special AGB alum. Run free Apollo 🌈

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Apollo (AKA AGB Archie) our loyal and loving dog, who crossed the rainbow bridge on January 29th, at the estimated age of 8. Apollo was more than a pet; he was a cherished member of our family for 7 years, bringing joy, comfort, and unconditional love into our lives. Apollo was a challenging project. AGB rescued him after he was found buried in the rubble of a dog shelter that was destroyed during a hurricane. Understandably, he was traumatized and was fearful of almost everything. I remember transporting him to Birmingham after he was rescued. He was handed off to me in a crate that was two sizes too small for him and he was terrified and refused to come out of the crate. My heart broke for him in that moment. I showed my wife a video of him and she immediately said we have to help him. We agreed to "foster" him for AGB and we headed to the vet to get him and took our dog Argos (AKA AGB Yogi) with us. Apollo was brought into the room and immediately went to a corner and curled up as small as he could and was shaking uncontrollably. Argos did not hesitate. He went directly to Apollo and laid down next to him and you could see the immediate change in Apollo's disposition. It was in that moment he became a part of our pack and our first foster fail. The road to his recovery was not easy. He was fearful and willful and had no training. We invested hours and considerable expense with trainers and vets to try to bring him out of his shell. We were told that love would never save him. That proved to be totally wrong. Apollo had a healthy distrust in all humans, especially men. It took years before he would not shrink into a corner when approached but eventually he decided we were not going to hurt him and he actually seemed to crave our attention. Of course, it had to be on his terms and we learned to accept that and would look forward to the times he would approach us.

Surprisingly, it took our move from Birmingham to Texas for us to learn that what Apollo most desired was space. We were temporarily living with relatives who have a small ranch. Apollo immediately claimed their vast back yard as his own and, as the picture shows, he actually smiled for the first time. That fact dictated the requirements for the home we eventually purchased. It has a massive back yard and Apollo's favorite thing to do is to lay right in the middle of it and remind his canine siblings that it belongs to him.

Apollo will be forever remembered for his loyalty and the way he made our house feel like a home. He was a quirky dog whose major talent was being able to alternate raising his eye brows and try to make you guess what he was thinking about. He was sweet and gentle and his companionship was a gift we will hold close and, though his physical form is no longer with us, his spirit will forever be a part of our hearts.

We are grateful for the time we shared with Apollo and though we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and pain free. He was truly one of a kind, and his memory will live on in the countless paw prints he left on our hearts. Rest in peace, dear "PoPo". You will always be loved and never forgotten by us nor your canine siblings Argos and Athena (AGB P18 PJ).

Adoption announcement! Julia’s new Mom, a previous adopter, had just lost her beloved golden and wasn’t sure if the time was right to adopt again. But after she saw Juliet’s picture, she knew the timing was perfect. Pictured here is Juliet, now Clover, and her new friend Andie. Mom says, “Clover is a perfect puppy. She is intelligent, friendly, well-mannered, laid back, and loves hugs. She is absolutely beautiful and our family feels like we've won a jackpot. She loves to play tug and wrestle, and she's respectful of her new cat friends. We have hopes that she might become a therapy dog someday because she's such a good girl! Thank you for blessing us with our perfect girl!”

PLEASE DONATE TO MY MEDICAL FUND. CLICK HERE TO DONATE: https://adoptagoldenbirmingham.com/donate-for-rocky/. Thank you so much!

Cue the Rocky theme song! Yes, thanks to AGB, I will prevail and I will be a winner! My name is Rocky and I'm almost 2 years old - just a couple weeks shy. You can see I'm a handsome, rugged fellow with a dark gold coat and a striking white stripe on my chest. And look at my shiny white, perfect teeth and beautiful eyes. I was an owner surrender. I might have spent some time outside on a chain and, unfortunately, I got heart worms. I'm thinking at my age, I'm not particularly going to like being quiet and resting for several weeks while my heart worm treatment happens. But with my fighting spirit, I'll get through it and I hope you nice people will help AGB pay for my treatment with some donations. Please? Folks, I hope all of you will give your puppies and dogs a heart worm pill every month so they don't have to go through this. Taking a heart worm pill once a month is a lot cheaper than paying for heart worm treatment! I've now had all my shots, I will be neutered and I'm microchipped. I weigh 76 pounds. Big boy, big heart! I'm very sweet and I enjoy being around other critters. I'm really smart and quick to learn so maybe if I became your pup, you'd show me some new tricks and do some training with me. I'll do a lot for some treats. We can have a lot of fun together and I'll love you loyally. Puppy kisses to you, Rocky

"Remember, you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine." - Snow White

I’m Snow White and I’m ready to fill your world with sunshine, if you’ll choose me. I was brought into a shelter in North Alabama and Adopt a Golden swooped in and rescued me. I am around 18 months-old and 40 pounds - and a sweet little girl. If you’re interested in me, how about applying to adopt me today?

And we are overjoyed to see this deserving girl find such a loving place to call her own. Her mom shared, “She’s perfect! She’s exactly what we needed!” Congratulations to Mavis and her new family. Thank you for opening your home and choosing adoption.

Adoption announcement! Jack came to AGB from a breeder who wanted him to have a better life. He went to a foster home where he learned how to be a spoiled boy. His new parents applied to adopt from AGB after losing their beloved Golden puppy to a rare kidney disorder. When they saw Jack, they knew he was the one for them. His new mom said, "Christmas Came Early! We are already in love with him. Thank you Adopt a Golden Birmingham for introducing us to Jack!”

Adoption announcement! Dustin has found his forever home. This family had been working with AGB for a couple of months to find a baby brother for their 4 year old Golden boy named Burphy. When they set off on their annual winter vacation right before Christmas, they took a long road trip to Birmingham. They met a few dogs that didn’t work out for one reason or another. Then they met Dustin, and Burphy took an immediate liking to him. That sealed the deal. The family then took a 2 day trip back home to PA where Dustin, now known as Toffee, settled wonderfully well and has already seen his first snow. We are so thankful to adoptive families who go the extra mile for their pups. Thanks to Dustin's fosters and all the AGB team for helping him find his perfect home.

Adoption announcement! Winston came to AGB as an owner surrender. He was a super active dog who just needed the right family. His new mom and dad saw him and knew he was the dog they wanted. His dad says "Winston is a perfect addition to our family. He is full of energy and very loving. He loves to play fetch and play with toys but will also cuddle up on the couch with you and snuggle. He has also become a best buddy to our other dog, Maeve. Have a great life Winston!
