Hi everyone! This sweet boy is Hoss. He was having severe back pain, and his mom and dad have tried everything to help him. He was hurting even through medication, so Dr. G preformed a back block, similar to what a person with back pain would get. We wanted to wait a little while to be sure it worked before posting about it, but, we have good news! He is getting around a lot better and not in pain. This is still something that is trial and error for us, as it’s a new procedure Dr. G attempted to save this boy. We hope in the future if we need to do any more blocks, they will help that patient just as much as it helped our boy Hoss!! Thanks for reading and feel free to send all your prayers and well wishes Hoss’ way! 💕

Heartworms are parasites that inhabit the heart and lungs, with females growing up to 12 inches long. Dogs can become infected as young as 4-6 months of age. Heartworms can affect the dog’s quality of life. In the early stages, many dogs do not show clinical signs of infection. As the disease progresses, it is more likely that clinical signs, including mild persistent cough, decreased exercise tolerance, decreased appetite, and weight loss, will be seen. Heartworm infection is transmitted by mosquitoes. All it takes is one bite from an infected mosquito to cause lifelong damage to a dog. There are 1 million dogs estimated to be heartworm-positive in the United States each year! The prevalence of heartworm disease has increased steadily since it was first identified, now affecting dogs in all 50 states! We’ve attached a map that shows the severity of heartworms throughout the states, as well as a blood slide that contains microfilaria (baby heartworms) in the comment section.

Things don’t always go as planned when you work with animals! This is Stetson the lemur. He was here today to get neutered, but when we were able to sedate and examine him better we discovered he only had one descended testicle. We have put his surgery on hold for now, we will update you on Stetson in a few months! For now just enjoy his cuteness!!
