UPDATE: Video with captions, Alabama Code regarding animal abuse, & Animal Control information in comments!
🚨WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY🚨
Please make sure to bring your animals inside! As we move into the later hours, temperatures will continue to drop, making it extremely dangerous for animals to be outdoors.
Even though Birmingham did not get snow, it does not mean conditions are safe for our furry friends to be outside for prolonged periods of time.
The Jefferson County Sherrifs Department and GBHS put out a PSA earlier today on the Alabama Code detailing how the law precieves animal abuse. Please go read/ watch our posts before considering leaving an animal outdoors.
Thank you!

Neighbors' Calls Save Freezing Puppy
Neighbors' Calls Save Freezing Puppy
Last Friday, as GBHS Animal Control Officers were wrapping up their final emergency calls in challenging road conditions, we began receiving urgent calls, videos, and pictures from concerned citizens about a puppy we now call Beau. The videos showed a small white puppy shivering and precariously balancing on an overturned metal pot in a desperate attempt to stay off the icy ground. GBHS remained on the phone with witnesses as they continued to send footage of Beau, who ultimately succumbed to the cold and fell into the snow. Animal Care and Control Director, Gynger Jarboe, arrived just in time to rescue him, and his owner immediately surrendered the puppy. Beau was treated by our veterinarians and is now safe and warm in a cozy bed, enjoying lots of Hill's Science Diet puppy food, and receiving the medical care and love he desperately needs. This situation serves as an important reminder that harsh weather conditions can be perilous for all animals, particularly puppies, who struggle to regulate their body temperature as adults do. It’s crucial to bring pets indoors and provide them with proper shelter during extreme weather. We extend our gratitude to everyone who called and posted about Beau; YOUR actions saved his life. If you witness any instances of animal abuse or neglect, please contact GBHS Animal Care and Control at 205-591-6522. We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergencies.
