Changing things up this weekend since we're spending our weekend at our JW convention out of town and Desert-Rose is really enjoying her time with the kids and I one on one. I keep trying to retire her from SD work but she never forgets her training and her zeal to do the job. Catahoulas really NEED jobs as long as it's fulfilling to the individual and you have a happy dog in the end it's perfect. That's why I love this breed so much... Not many can actually do everything Rose does not many can make good solid bomb proof service dogs but the ones that do and can are irreplaceable! I don't know if I'll ever truly replace her as I seek a new prospect but for now we'll continue to enjoy working together no matter how little we actually get out and go places together like this. But man oh man I hope I can find an excellent prospect before she is forced to fully retire!

We have this pattern around here. We're not allowed to find more than three raccoons per night 🤦 first drop Rose and friends dog found two separate individuals at some water. Rose made contact first so everyone went to help her and we lost the second one. Dispatched the caught one. Already down two the first drop now 😅. Dropped them at the second place, not sure what happened but these rusty old dogs completely lost it after Rose spooked it across the canal. ( #3) We should have realized it was over now since we had found three 🤦😅. We ignored history (usually skunk, porcupine badger ect "trash" after the three correct finds) and dropped the dogs again. Only moments passed before we could hear they struck "something" that something being a little badger... Of course 🙄🤦. But I think Rose has a grudge against badgers cause the last one they didn't even pursue. it popped up and attacked them. Rose got a beating from the sucker that incident and she has some ugly battle wounds from the most recent one too. I think she's getting too old for such fun but you couldn't tell her apart from the pups when they are out... In fact she is always the last one that is ready to load after a long night. But boy she struggles for the next few days.

These dogs couldn't possibly be forced to do this. These dogs LIVE and LOVE to work!

We got to work alongside Sam's brother Dean and it's remarkable how much different their styles of hunting are within the litter. That litter is brand new blood to me. Usually my dogs are very catchy (Dean is more catchy) while Sam is pretty much all bay (so far) which is not super helpful in the way we hunt raccoon around here, but I'm hoping it'll make for a better tree dog when we start working up north more. Mostly crop and Hayfield hunting meaning we find and catch them on the ground or in water more frequently then in trees. Occasionally we'll pull them out of culverts and rock piles too.
Being Rose and Sam are the only ones that I have with me, I'm not sure how Sam's raccoon hunting future is going to proceed since Rose has to take a step back. So he'll be more Solo hunting as his career develops. It's hard to think about not hunting behind Rose. I know the day will come when she's completely out and another day when she returns to the earth. And it's gonna make for a very emotional house here.

Gosh. If nobody reads my "blog" that's okay. I'm moreso just journaling with this page since I'm not so active anymore. I still want to capture the memories and moments in chronological order so I am utilizing this page. So until next entry!😅🤷🥰

I've never had one like Sam before... He loves toys which is so weird 🤣. But not only does he love toys he loves to share them with everyone 😅🤦 shoving them in people's face lap arm anything to make sure you see his new toy he's so happy with 🤣🥰

We found a great new place to board (they also offer training) great overnight rates and excellent quality care. My dogs had a blast they came home tired and well mannered which to me is everything because I typically avoid boarding if I can because most places I have found don't enforce good manners and operate more like an animal shelter. These ladies here at Prairie Fauna Kennels in Turtle Lake ND are doing an outstanding job! I can't recommend them enough!!!

This one was definitely worth hanging onto. From needy little baby to needy big baby 🤣

Besides how much of a momma's boy he is, he is fiercely loyal, protective of his "brothers" (my kids), wicked smart learning everything I can think to teach him to keep his brilliant mind busy. He's the only toy driven catahoula I've ever owned and it's kinda neat having a dog that enjoys playing fetch and tug with me instead of just living critters 😅.

He's incredibly motivated to please me. But very sarcastic in personality... He's a clown. Lol.

He talks to me more than any other catahoula I've ever had.

He is just so innocent. It's precious. If everyone could live as carefree and happy as this boy does then world peace would exist 🤣🥰.

I never forget the value of a versatile dog. On when necessary and off when necessary. Silly when necessary and serious when necessary. Protective when necessary and Friendly when necessary. Gentle when necessary and Rough when necessary. And best part is I don't have to tell him when it's necessary. He can read the room. Intuitive like I strive for 🥰. I love this boy more than words can say, I'm so happy with my choice to keep him in my home!🥰

I've had a really rough couple of years with sick dogs and dogs coming and going and even at times wondering if I'd be able to feed even one dog. But I exist for my kids and dogs. So here we are. Thriving once again with the drama in the past. My heart will remain with holes as some hard choices were made but everyone is happy and healthy where they are and I'm so happy to see regular updates on everyone who I have had to relocate during the hard patch.

With that said, Sam came to me at a last minute call to rescue his pregnant mother (my breeding Bluebird's Sukari). It was sudden and I wasn't really prepared for it but praise goes to my good hearted friend who had generously opened kennel space to accommodate my "extra" dogs and help me with training and evaluation. Because of everything that has happened recently I'm not in a position to be breeding anymore and I'm not counting on that changing anymore. We barely get a chance to hunt now with a flipped life and living arrangements (though none of us can actually stop completely just have to cut down significantly) so I most likely won't have any more puppies available in the future but I do have two breeding adults with a friend who may choose to continue on with them at some point in the future. I might put up some straws on Sam but he's probably not being bred either.

It's hard to get out of a breed I care so deeply for. And as long as my pups are still out there and their families are still extensions of my family I won't ever be completely out. But I'm going to remove myself from the breeding category. I hope to find time and resources to attend some shows and trials with Sam.

I want to thank everyone who has given a Bluebird Catahoula a loving home. And thank you for giving me a chance to lighten your homes with these wonderful dogs. I always love my pupdates and I'll continue to share them on here as well as my small packs adventures🥰
