Edit— Raylan is off for training in Larkspur for a couple months! This is him settling in meeting a horse that lived at Fawnwood before he was born. Fingers crossed for many happy updates!

Our Fawnwood Family would like to extend our sympathy and condolences to Colorado Equine Veterinary Clinic.

Our vets and veterinary workers do not have an easy life here in Colorado, and an fire like this is nothing short of tragedy.

We wish CEVC the very best as they recover and rebuild.

Crews were called to the scene near Hanks Grove and Murphy Road around 2:30 Monday morning.

UPDATE— power restored and intersection is clear. Thank you first responders and MVEA linemen!!!

Hey all— some drunk dude ran thru the intersection of Burgess and Goodson and knocked down the power pole. We, and it looks like a lot of Paint Brush Hills are out of power (and here that means also water). Driver seemed relatively unharmed, Energency services and MVEA already on scene. Stay safe out there folks!!!

Edited— I had originally written Burgess and Rex because it was 2 am and brain wasn’t fully turned on. Sorry for any confusion. 7 am, power still out.

PS I’ll post some cute pix in the coming days. 😉

A former neighbor contacted me today and asked if Fawnwood was empty.

I want to assure all of our friends and neighbors it is very much NOT.

We are still closed for boarding, but our personal horses, dogs and cats and WE are all still here. All residential space is occupied., the barn is very active, and we’re just moving our personal horses thru the pastures over the seasons for convenience and their well-being.

We’re taking some time to re-group, both as a business and after some tragic personal losses. We’re also working on some improvements— fencing, and other maintenemce. Nothing major, but making sure Fawnwood is in good shape going foreward!

I want to be very clear that Fawnwood does not EVER sit empty. (And frankly, there’s really nothing here worth stealing!) And even if everyone is out running errands, there are cameras and dogs that are sweet as long as we’re here to tell them to be sweet.

We are peaceful people, and we strive to be good neighbors so it’s important to me that this rumor gets quashed. There is literally a plan “A” “B” and “C” for the care of this property and every living thing on it (except maybe the two goldfish, lol). in the event that the three people who care for this place daily all become unable to do so.

So I don’t know what’s swirling out there but this page (or messaging us thru here, if you’re a neighbor we haven’t met) will always be your best source of info on the State of Things Here.

Ok… the rest is just fun stuff—

I miss our yaks!!! It was the right choice for us to sell them when we did— and no they weren’t butchered, they are all having beautiful babies at my friend’s place in the high valley! But I am so happy to see more people getting yaks in the forest! It’s a great environment for them. If anyone wants any advice, feel free to hit us up!!

If critters go missing near us, please let us know! We have crates and stalls and if you want to be on the properties surrounding us we’d be happy to help. Our dogs will want to be friends with your missing pet. Not always ideal but better than the other approach.

I just got back from a trip last week. I guess a should post a pic of the horses but the weather has been s**t and they’re not “cute”.

I’ll fix it timorrow.

Everyone at Fawnwood is safe, happy and healthy. And here.

Ok here’s a pic of the moon so the algorithm will notice!

Happy Turkey Day everyone!!!

Happy Turkey Day everyone!!!

As we enter Thanksgiving week in the US, many of your vets will be out of town or spending much needed time with their families.
It’s times like these that horse owners need to practice 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠.

During this holiday time, as an emergency only vet, I recommend the following:

- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 deworm your horse right now.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 start a new feed right now.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 get a new round bale of coastal hay right now if you’ve let the last one go to dust (give small amounts at a time or mix with a stemmy hay until they’ve had their fill, then give the round bale).
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 change schedules.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 vaccinate your horse right now, especially if you have a known reactor.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 be in a rush and fail to soak your feed for long enough (choke risk) - especially if you’re late to feed due to holiday errands/get togethers.
- If you have visitors, limit treats. Ensure gates are closed. Make sure feed doors and bins locked. 𝐁𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥!

There is already a shortage of equine vets - and the few we do have will likely be out of town or trying to enjoy the holiday.

Let’s all have a very 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. And let’s let our vets stay home with family!

Remember: 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒔! 😂🥴

Nature abhors a vacuum. I don’t know how to tell Wyatt and Virgil they will never replace The Lion, because they are just sure that someone needs to be on house duty. Very very bitter and a little sweet.

Update! Apparently our email and phone are both working again! (That makes it sound like it was east, it wasn’t.) Lol. Anyway we are still not accepting new clients but I do really try not to be totally rude and just ignore inquiries, so if you happen to hear someone saying we’re a bunch of loser slackers, please tell them, really, we didn’t mean it.

So, since we’ve been sort of out of business for a year plus, service providers have been messing with our communications. We’ve been paying the bills, make no mistake, but apparently even our replies to inquiries are coming back as spam.

Yay technology.

I’ll post some pix of our Fawnwood permanent equine residents next week— I’m out of town. But for those of you that know us or have referred people to us- we’re not reopening yet, but we are alive and well, and we appreciate your continued support.

RIP Melvin.

Guess who turns three this weekend!!! No, silly, not Bill Fuller! BEBEH HORSE!!!

Raylan is easily 15.2, still sweet as pie but getting better about being all up in your business. He hasn’t had any formal training in at least a year and a half, but that’s gonna change this summer!!! Almost time for Bebeh to learn how to be a grown up!

BILLY UPDATE!!!

I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m thinking the old guy is gonna pull thru!!! We’ve got him eating again— small frequent meals so we can discern how much and not overwhelm his gut— but he’s gone from dropping everything to apparently pretty well devouring everything put in front of him! Since we’re still not sure exactly what happened in the first place this still doesn’t guarantee he’ll live another five years (or even months) but it means we can keep him happy and comfy thru the coming horrific weather event and see what comes next.

Thanks to Doc R for all her help and patience, Bill Fuller for helping him and helping me help him, and all of you for your good thoughts and kind words!

Keep those fingers crossed, I’ll post a picture of him in the morning if all is still well. (It’s hard to get good pix because if I get close he stops eating and comes for scratches, and I do NOT want him to stop eating!! Lol.)

I found a blanket from our archive that fits him beautifully, and he and all the rest of our gang is, knock wood and crossed fingers, in pretty good shape moving into the freaking 60 degree temp drop tomorrow.

Thanks again to all of you for sending good juju our way!!!
