SHELTER AND RESCUE FRIENDS

Many of you know that I do separation anxiety work exclusively. In addition to owning my own business, I also part-time work for Malena DeMartini. We are currently gathering information in a survey for shelters and rescues to help us refine what kind of additional resources we can develop to help with dogs in their care who are suffering from separation-related behavior problems. From the preliminary data that we have collected, it appears there is a great need for these resources.

This research will be instrumental in supporting our shelters and rescues, so I ask that you share this with everyone that you know so we can gather as much data as possible.

Thank you for sharing far and wide 😍

Mission POSSIBLE 2.0 is now available! This is the premier online course for guardians of dogs who have separation anxiety. Read the blog post to learn more about it. This is an amazing resource for your clients and an essential tool to have in your toolbox.

The journey to overcome separation anxiety can feel isolating, and I wanted (and still want) any guardian to truly know they are not alone. This was one of the reasons for launching the original Mission POSSIBLE course. So, we designed the original course to include discussion boards where learners could ask questions and post comments; they could share their wins, no matter how small, and lean in for support when needed. Daily, since the launch of Mission POSSIBLE, my team of Certified Separation Anxiety Trainers (CSATs) and I have responded to and followed carefully all that these guardians have shared with us. We read, we listened, and now we are responding on a larger scale by introducing Mission POSSIBLE 2.0 β€” Unleashing New Hope for Separation Anxiety!

UPDATE - Cooperative Care and Fear Free Grooming for the win!!!!

Gibbs has been going to a Fear Free Certified Groomer for 10 months and the change in his demeanor while getting groomed has been remarkable. It is so nice to see him more comfortable with the process. I don’t know that he will ever love going to the groomer, but he now enters the facility with a more relaxed body language and agrees to being groomed much more willingly. He still uses some medication to take the edge off, but the dose is half of what it was a year ago.

A huge shout out to in Black Mountain for embracing cooperative care and going at a pace that is comfortable for Gibbs.. Added bonus, he looks really good too. Thank you Sierra!!!!! 🐩πŸ₯°πŸΎ πŸ“·

This is a great idea!!!

Management is something every trainer I know talks about - it’s one of the first conversations I have with clients. Baby gates, x-pens, leash tethers, the list goes on…

I’ve always thought I was good at finding adaptive solutions but today I walked into a lesson and was blown away by the genius of my client! Their dog is a big boy who loves to counter surf, but also struggles with being confined.

Look at this beautiful AND creative solution they came up with! This is a portable ping pong net 🀯 I am so in love with this and was so impressed with their ingenious idea.

You can find them on Amazon - get one while you can because I think this is gonna be a new trend πŸ˜‚

My friend Deb Jones wrote another fabulous and very thoughtful book- When the Loss is Deep: A Companion Animal Grief Journal.

We have all lost a beloved animal companion and the grief we feel can oftentimes be overwhelming.

This book offers a gentle pathway through the grief journey. I was lucky enough to receive the galleys for this book and after reading it online, printed it off because I did not want to wait for the actual book to get started working my way through the journal.

It has been a bit over a year since the loss of one of my dogs and while the grief has lessened, it is still part of my life. The book is helping me to process things and gain perspective on the loss in a good way. If you or someone you know has experienced the loss of a companion animal, this book will be very helpful.

Gibbs is a reactive dog.

He is almost 10 and has come sooooo far with being more comfortable around other dogs and people while out on walks. But, we still make an effort to time his sniffing walks for when we will not encounter others so that he can fully relax and not worry about encountering another dog. Does that mean we are up and out the door at sunrise each day? Yes it does. For us, the benefit of Gibbs being at ease with his world makes it worth while. Plus, looking at those mountains as the sun is coming up is not a bad way to start the day.πŸŒ„πŸ©πŸ€©

Sometimes you have to practice what you preach!

Gibbs is 9 now and lately he seems to be less than thrilled when we walk out the door and leave him alone. He now follows us to the door and stands there looking at us, his ears and tail are a bit lower than usual and he just has a slightly worried look on his face.

After this happened a few times, it finally dawned on me that I should do what I tell clients to do and pull out the Wyze cameras and see what actually happened after we left. (Shout out to they have the best cameras at a nice price point!)

Lo and behold, as soon as we pulled out of the garage,Gibbs got up in his chair and sacked out. It makes my heart happy that my senior guy is still comfortable with absences.

However, since he was looking worried as we left, the cameras are staying up and I will be checking on him during absences to ensure that he continues to be comfortable with alone time.

If you think your dog is struggling with being home alone, getting them video is a great way to see what really happens when you leave. There are so many easy and inexpensive ways to capture your dog on video these days.

As a CSAT (Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer), nothing makes me happier than to watch a sleeping dog. πŸ₯°πŸ’€πŸ˜΄

Most of you know me as the person who used to organize workshops and conferences. You may not know that I am also a CSAT and since retiring from meeting organization, I now work exclusively with separation anxiety clients. (I absolutely love it!)

In addition to working SA cases, I have the honor of working part-time for Malena DeMartini and interviewing applicants to the separation anxiety training program.

These aren’t dogs, but they sure are fun to watch.

We live in the mountains and both of us love our mountains, but we need our water fix every once in a while.

We were able to get away for a few days and this was what we saw while sipping morning coffee on the balcony. It was a great way to start the day!
