Venmo: County Humane Society

We are an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 organization that runs exclusively on donations and the occasional small g

rant. Bingham County is blessed with generous veterinary clinics that allow us to sell low cost spay and neuter vouchers to assist Bingham County residents in financial need. BCHS also pays money towards every cat voucher to assist in the total savings. The veterinarians and the Bingham County Humane Society do this to help end the suffering and euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs in Bingham County. BCHS has a small, cat only shelter that assists the residents of Bingham County in rehoming healthy, companion cats, and unwanted kittens. We are not a municipal animal shelter and not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States. Unfortunately, we cannot take in and house injured, ill, or feral cats due to space and cost. Please take those animals to a veterinarian or the Blackfoot Animal Shelter located at 199 Frontage Road. Their phone number is 208-785-6897. After business hours please call police dispatch at 208-785-1234 for assistance. Please do not dump animals in the country or leave them outside at our location. Give the animals a chance by taking them to the shelter. We do have a limited number of older/special needs adoptable cats housed at our location, most of our kittens and young adult cats can be adopted through our shelter at 766 S Broadway, in Blackfoot, just call/text 208-680-3881 to set up an appointment or the PetSmart adoption center in Idaho Falls at 2300 E 17th. Please take care when entering our building, we do have a couple of resident cats who are loose. Please don't let them out!

We sell discounted spay and neuter vouchers for Bingham County Residents.
766 S Broadway, Blackfoot.
We take cash, or Venmo with a small service fee.
We also have your new 'furrever' kitty friends for adoption.
How does spaying and neutering saves lives?
Kittens born outside have less than a 75% surviving a year. If you spay/neuter your own pets, their kittens/puppies don’t take the homes from kittens/puppies in shelters. It can also save your pets life. Cancers found in intact animals are rarely found in fixed pets. Some cancers, like testicular cancer is impossible.
Your community and neighborhood will be happier that you’re not adding to stray cat population.
As far as cats being “not your cat”, they’ve been let down by their people, it takes good people to step up and help.

BCHS NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The Bingham County Humane Society is going to be starting a TNR Community Service project in Blackfoot.
TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Return.
We will be trapping felines in areas where there are a large amount of feral cats.

We need money and equipment to take on this big project.

Equipment needed includes:
*Medium to large kennels ( preferably with 2 doors, or, 1 door in the center of the long side).
*Live Animal Traps.

Kennels and traps need to be clean please.
If you can help us with any of these items, please call 208-680-3881 to arrange a time to drop them off at our building at 766 S Broadway in Blackfoot.

The Vet bills for this project will be very costly. We would like to match $10,000 in donations.
If you want to donate to this worthwhile community project, please scan the QR code in the pictures. Please add a note to your donation that says. "TNR Project".
Or go to our web page for other ways to donate https://www.binghamcountyhumane.org/donate-1

Thankful Thursday -Update: We're grateful for compassionate Samaritans who aid in animal rescue and stop to assist injured animals. Still searching for her owners... Check with your neighbors and share. She was found alongside a road on 800 W in Riverside. We believe Thomas Rd. Thank you for all your prayers and shares. We hope to reunite her with her owner. She is such a sweet kitty. 🐈‍⬛

❤️ Please keep sharing! 🥰

"What does rescue involve? It means stepping up and caring for another’s life and wellbeing. Sometimes people don’t want to get involved or aren’t sure what to do. Rescue is hardly easy, it takes courage to intervene sometimes and determination to find help. If there isn’t help available, it takes being responsible for a life you may not be prepared for. People who care for another, whether a person, animal, or even an insect, when they have no obligation to, make the world a better place, not just for the one they helped, but for everyone" -Jen

UPDATE!! This kitty is doing so much better! She’s back at our building and we’re still looking for her people. She’s not fixed. If no one claims her she’ll be fixed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and up for adoption.

This poor kitty was found alongside a road on 800 W in Riverside and brought to us by a caring person. She’s been mostly likely hit by a car and is in pretty rough shape. She’s currently at Cottonwood Vet Clinic. We’re guessing she’s a younger female, no microchip. Please check for your kitties if you’re out that way and see if she’s your cat. She needs some prayers right now. 🙏🐈‍⬛❤️‍🩹

This last year went by with a blur. December of 2023 we were faced with a rent increase and low funds that put us in the danger of closing our doors. But we were blessed with an amazing outpouring of support that allowed us to continue our programs and for that, we can’t thank you enough.

2024 was a busy year! So many kittens were brought in that had been found in roads, in the garbage, in dumpsters, with horrible injuries, fatal deformities, tied in a garbage bag tossed in the middle of a highway, attacked by a Tom cat, born in a window well, and so many more tragic situations. We had a beautiful, sweet momma who was so close to having her happy ever after pass away from complications due to childbirth. All of which could have been prevented by the simple surgeries of spaying and neutering.

Sadly we lost 18 kitties, all but the momma and Mazy, our 16 year old senior who was our best boss kitty, were young kittens.

Luckily, we had great foster parents to help raise all the babies. More foster homes made it possible to take in more vulnerable kitties. Lots of hours of sleep lost to bottle feeding kittens. Caring for orphan kittens is a physically and emotionally challenging.

Before we knew it, we passed our 2023 intakes of 171. The kitties kept coming. At the end of the year our total intake count is 302 cats and kittens, 256 of those had been adopted by December 31, 2024. We ended the year with 91 kitties still in our care.

We also sold 804 low cost spay and neuter vouchers, of which 777 were for cats.

All of this was made possible through your donations and countless hours of dedicated volunteers. The Bingham County Humane Society doesn’t receive any funds from the city or county. We have no paid employees. We do this because we love to help animals and our community. Thank you so much for your support ❤️

Let’s make 2025 about getting more animals spayed and neutered! It’s the only solution to stopping the suffering.

UPDATE! These kitties are doing great! We’re treating the one kitten’s eye and the wound on the cat. One of the kittens is super friendly and wants all the love you can give him. The other two are a bit shyer but sweet so we know they’ll get there too. The adult kitty is also very loving. We suspect the kittens have ringworm so they’re being treated for that. They should be ready for adoption in the next 3-4 weeks.

Why???

These kitties were left in a carrier at the apartments on Hunter’s Loop. Unfortunately the person that left them put them in a dark area in a parking space. When the person assigned that space came home, he backed in and didn’t see the carrier. The carrier broke open and the kitties got out. The gentleman enlisted his family to track down as many as they could. They found three kittens and one cat approximately a year old. The cat has an injury to her leg and one of the kitten has a bad eye. They smell of gas and oil. There was old clothing, including men’s underwear in the carrier along with food. Food had been left in the carrier but they weren’t eating it, probably because of the strong smell of gasoline. They all immediately started eating. We will be bathing them tonight, even at this late hour. Our question is why? What makes people treat animals this way? Did this person not know any better? Were they trying to harm them? Were they trying to help them? It’s so hard to understand.

Thankful Thursday
We are incredibly grateful to the compassionate community that stepped up in 2024 to bring BCHS the scared, vulnerable, and sick cats and kittens in need. Many of these animals would not have survived without your dedication and care. Thanks to YOU, countless lives have been saved and transformed. Your support has made all the difference—thank you for making a real impact!
