This year has been tougher than others. Lots of vet bills and a change in work schedules. We've also had a weird breeding year with one of Beau's mares needing to have her pregnancy terminated because of twins and another mare losing the pregnancy 😔.
We've downsized quite a bit but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with Beau. I debated gelding him or selling him many times this year and just getting fully out of breeding. Today I rode Beau for the first time in a year (Ava has rode him once though) and it's exactly what I needed! This boy is such a a sweetheart and acts like he hasn't been sitting around breeding mares all summer! Harley called to him a few times and he ignored her. His only naughtiness today was that he kept trying to eat my reins. Don't judge the horrible video quality, I'm not very coordinated trying to record and ride at the same time! I couldn't get any video faster than a walk because my phone just ended up facing the ground 🤣.
Beau will be here forever I think and he will always be one of my heart horses!

Patròn and Koda playing tonight in the sprinkler while they try to cool down! Patròn has finally slowed down on growing and he's filling out more now.
I can't believe no one has snagged Rocky yet! Look at how well gaited he is and he has Paisley's beautiful head!
I've had a lot of requests lately for videos of Beau's movement. I can edit this down to show just the running walk but I wanted to show also his temperament and that he DOES NOT pace. When he breaks gait he goes into a trot so he will square up babies from pacey mares. He had a little attitude because he really wanted to roll in the sand but other than that he's such a good stallion. I will probably get another video here soon of his gait under saddle but I didn't have a camera person this morning.
Jaylee and Jasper had some turnout time this afternoon before the wind and rain started. He's got the longest, goofiest legs but he sure can gait!!! He does a really nice running walk but I think he's got a singlefoot gait in him if he can just figure out how to use his legs! Jasper is still available.
Rocky and Paisley enjoying a little time out to pasture. He's a fancy little colt! Right now we are still cleaning up all the trees we removed so I don't leave them out unsupervised but they enjoyed some sunshine and grass for a while.
Jaylee and Jasper haven't been turned out yet but he keeps showing off how fast he is! He loves to run to the other end of the stall and slide to a stop in the straw before he runs back. Then he looks at me to see if I saw how fast he is! He will do this for hours at a time. He's going to keep Jaylee on her toes when they finally go out to pasture!
Trigger thinks this new colt is the cutest thing he's ever seen! We named him Jasper and he went for his first vet appointment today and everything looked great!
Dahlia's first day out! We've had thunderstorms and hail the last couple of days and she was ready to stretch her legs! This filly will be looking for a new home at weaning. She's out of my favorite trail mare so she should be a good one.

Beau got his last spring turnout with his mares today. We were cleaning out his corral and had him in a different spot than usual so he could see the geldings on the other side of the driveway. He was trying to keep his mares safe from them but the geldings seemed totally unconcerned with his antics. The weather was beautiful this morning!
Luckily I was checking on the barn camera and found this girl within 10 minutes of getting cast. We got her rolled back over and on her feet quickly and she didn't seem too distressed. I swear horses are always looking for ways to hurt themselves!
No Easter filly for Harley but she's gotta be getting close. She's been waxed since Friday and showing all signs of being very close. I think she just likes keeping me up checking on her at night! I turned her out for a couple hours this morning to stretch and roll. It's funny watching her try to run and buck with that big belly!
