We've been getting calls everyday from people needing to surrender their pets. We understand it's difficult to be turned away, however we can't take dogs off our waiting list when people decide it's better for them to just dump their dogs and make it everyone else's problem. When "strays" come in we can't turn them away. All our kennels are full, we have puppies living in cat kennels and dogs in crates. We often see people comment "well maybe they couldn't afford to feed them" and we understand that and that's why we help those people with food while they wait for a kennel to open up. We help as much as we can. Right now we aren't getting enough adoptions and the strays and dumps just keep coming in. we have 5 dogs at a 20$ adoption and can't even get them out of the shelter. Many people don't like to hear it but your dogs are your responsibility and in order to make them our responsibility there are things you have to do, you have to do things right. It is not fair to the people that follow the rules and do what we ask to keep getting bumped because others don't want to take responsibility. And if those people aren't held accountable they will continue to get away with it time and time again. We have helped people with food we have helped with medical care when we have the means to do so. We have watched homeless people come to us for help and still keep their animals till we can take them. We will continue to be transparent and hold people accountable for their actions. People need to start doing the right thing! Your problem may be gone when you dump your dog but you create a problem for many other people. Spay and neuter your pets and don't take in an animal if you are not capable of providing a forever home or doing the right thing when it comes to rehoming that animal.
