New volunteers and donors!

Kristen S and Phillip G came yesterday and helped me get Goober's pen cleaned up in preparation for the roofers. All 3 of us busted a move, and got the pen cleaned up in record time. Goober and Emmie supervised and put Phillip incharge of petting them, in between wheel barrel dumps, lol.

While we were scooping, Kristen asked me what the rescue was in need of. I told her that my next fundraiser would be to replace fans in the shelters. They left when we were done, and called a short time later, saying that they were at Walmart and said that they wanted to get my fans. ALL 20 OF THEM! They did and brought them to the rescue. WOW!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to Kristen and Phillip for your help yesterday, and to Phillip for donating the fans!

We are truly blessed to have such wonderful donors and volunteers :-)

Goober and the gang, got a much needed new roof on their shelter today!

A big THANKS to Red Rhino Roofing, for accepting the job to replace the shelter roof!! They even gave us a discount for being a non-profit rescue.

The crew was nice and worked hard. :-)

Going to be 80 today.

Got a temporary pool up for Daphney and Daisy ducks.

The water is a bit cold, but they didn't seem to notice.

Check out Eddie's chin hairs!

They were standing straight out this morning, like he had stuck his hoof in a light socket, lol!

Ethel visited Moonpie today!

I found her in Moonpie's pen at lunch time. They live next door to each other, but have not been in the same pen.

Moonpie has reached over the gate to touch her before, but seemed taken back with Ethel in his pen with him. She walked around like she owned the place. When she walked into his shelter to check out his feed dishes, he moved out of her way. He is twice her size, just saying. Maybe he was being a "gentleman", lol.

Ethel followed me back to her pen for lunch.

Never a dull moment...

Mugsley lost his "manhood" on Monday.

He apparently was a "late bloomer", and I did not see his "junk" until last week.

Mugsley was such a trooper loading into the wire dog crate, for his trip to Shelby Vet Hospital. When we got there, he had managed to open the side door to the kennel and let himself out. He took the blankets off the kennel and was laying on them, when I opened the door for Dr. McGargill. He laid there for his sedation shot, then Doc and another vet picked him up and took him inside on a gurney.

Mugsley's transformation took just an hour. Doc also trimmed his tusks and feet, while Mugsley napped.

I layed him on a blanket and covered him up with another, for the trip home. He was still asleep when we left, but waking up when we got back.

Pigs do not always handle sedation well, and Mugsley was having a bit of a time being able to settle down after the sedation wore off. I tucked him into bed that night, then watched him with the camera.

He is back to his normal self now 😊

Rescue announcement!!

Meet Max! He arrived at the rescue this afternoon.

Max's previous owner was arrested, taken to jail and had to surrender his pig. We don't know much about this sweet boy's history, other then he was an indoor pig, and was not neutered. NHS has had him during March, and took care of neutering him, as well as microchopping.

Max has a big adjustment to make, being at the rescue. Lots of "friends" and new noises to get used to, new routine and accomodations.

Help us welcome Max and stay tuned for updates.

Emmie was packing her lunch!

I was throwing hay over the fence yesterday, Emmie walked in front of me. The hay landed on her back and she just left it there and started eating. Lol!

One smart pig!

Mugsley decided to dig himself a pig puddle right next to his water bowl. When I fill his bowl with water, he gets a drink, then dumps the rest into the hole to make his mud puddle to wallow in.

Let the spring shedding begin!

Eddie was the first to get a layer of fur off yesterday. I brushed him while he ate lunch.

Moonpie is next door, so he was next. Due to his Cushings Disease, his fur grew so long, it started to mat. It was a real job to get the mats out, but I know he must feel better. He waited to eat his lunch, til I was done. Got almost a whole other Moonpie of fur.

The birds like to use the horse fur in their nests, so I do not clean it up.

NO MORE SNOW!!

Rosco's Rescue Ranch got 8 inches, not counting the drifting.

We had a dead tree come down in Star and Lucy's pen. It fell just beside their shelter, leaving them room to get inside. God was watching over them for sure.

Ready for SPRING!

THANK YOU!

To volunteer Chris, who came and helped at the rescue today.

He helped unload and stack hay, and clean 3 pens. We are starting our winter cleanup, so pen cleaning is a CHORE all by itself. Good thing Goober was "supervising".

We still need help to get our spring cleaning caught up. If you can donate even an hour of your time, it makes a difference. Call or text me at 402-533-2994.

How It All Began....

Back in 2013, Rosco (my horse) was diagnosed with cancerous sarcoids on his groin area. I had been boarding him for the past 7 years, but with treatment and aftercare, my boarding facility could not be expected to give him the personal care that he needed.

I got permission from my mother to build a pen and shelter for Rosco on her acreage, and bring him there to care for him. Rosco needed another horse for company. My search lead me to Vinny (pictured above - in February 2018 at 30 years old). At that time, she was being fostered for the Nebraska Humane Society and needed a home. She was a severe neglect case and just skin and bones, when I agreed to take her. I didn’t realize it then, but she would be the start of Rosco’s Rescue Ranch.

Since Rosco and I trail rode often, I didn’t want Vinny to be left alone when we were gone. I found out about an older couple who had a donkey farm and could no longer take care of their donkeys. I rescued Fancy Pants to be company for Vinny. Fancy and Vinny became BFF’s.

It was after rescuing both Vinny and Fancy, that I realized what a need there was for equine rescuing. I decided to become a non-profit equine rescue in 2014, and Rosco’s Rescue Ranch was born! Over the past 4 1/2 years we have grown little by little, as more horses and donkeys needed help. We have built every shelter (except for the calving huts), put up all the fencing, gates, and transformed what used to be a Christmas tree farm, into the rescue and sanctuary that is here today.
