Ferral kitty update:
I haven't mentioned momma kitty at the storage area in awhile, but I have been feeding. Her 4 kittens that I rescued from the shed at Petromart where spayed/neutered and rehomed by The Working Project. I have been looking for the last two kittens (orange striped one and black one), with no luck.
When feeding momma kitty this morning, she came to eat before I left, so I was able to get this video. Her tummy has taken on a plumper look, since I saw her last. GASP!! She might be preggers AGAIN. I will be keeping a close eye on her to confirm my suspicions. Will be making plans to get her out of there.
Stayed tuned for more updates...
Gemma snow bathing
Some of us enjoy the snow..
Mugsley (piggy rescue update):
Mugsley has settled in, and made himself at home. I have been working on winterizing his shelter. Plugged in his heated water bowl, as it is suppose to get below freezing tonight.
I am still trying to get him to eat piggy pellets. He will eat some if I put syrup on them, but otherwise, NOPE. He does like oatmeal, rolls, blueberry muffins, eggs, waffles (plain) and mac-n-cheese. No fruit or veggies. I watch his portion sizes on the people food. Mugsley enjoys ear and butt scratches, tummy rubs, and visiting with Smokey and Bandit (his next door neighbors).
Stay tuned for more on Mugsley!
Moving day for Fender!
Rosco's Rescue Ranch rescued Fender back in June. He has been living with Foster mom Lisa. During that time, Fender was diagnosed with Navicular in both front feet. We have had him in pads and wedges with shoes to help him with discomfort, as well as Equioxx as needed. He has made strides in this area, and we are pleased with the pain management plan and quality of life, from where he started.
Due to family commitments, Foster mom Lisa could not continue to take care of Fender. A previous Foster mom, Carma, answered the call to duty, and offered to care for Fender for the winter.
Thank you to both foster mom Lisa and Carma for helping Fender and being part of our rescue mission!
Welcome home Eddie!
Moving day for Foster horse Eddie!
Folks who have followed us for years, are familiar with Eddie's story. For those who are more recent followers, here is the scoop:
When Rosco's Rescue Ranch rescued Eddie, he was 18 years old and had been abused by a "trainer". He could not be caught nor tied. Definently NOT ridden. He suffered from PTSD, and wanted nothing to do with most humans. Especially men.
Fast forward to now. Eddie is 27. With the help and patience of the foster moms he has had over the years, Eddie has learned to trust women, will get a halter on, lead, load and stand for the vet. He still requires sedation to be trimmed.
Eddie has his teeth floated the end of October, and the vet discovered that his teeth were worn down to the point that he can no longer chew well or process hay to maintain weight. Due to Eddie's feeding requirements and the extra TLC he now needs, we have moved him to the rescue. He has a pen next to his old buddy Moonpie, and will live out the rest of his days in our sanctuary.
Welcome home Eddie!
Piggy rescue - day 2
Still trying him on different food, to see what he will eat. He will not touch piggy pellets. I'm thinking his previous "people" must have been feeding him table scraps.
Today I tried 3 different kinds of fruit at lunch time. NOPE. I fixed him maple and brown sugar oatmeal and a small (Silkie egg) hard boiled egg. Nailed it! He had tucked himself in for the night. As soon as he smelled the oatmeal, he got up and started to eat! Yay!
Tomorrow I will try mac-n-cheese. Our other 3 little pigs love it.
Now for a name. Here are some suggestions so far:
Coal
Lewis
Clark
Mugsley
If y'all have any food or name suggestions, let me know.
Piggy has arrived!
We transported him this afternoon. I had a plan A, B, and C to get him loaded. We sat a wire kennel infront of his stall door, threw in an ear of corn, and he walked right in on his own. In fact, he seemed so at ease with doing it, that I think he has done it before. Like an indoor pig would.
He is quite interested in Smokey and Bandit (his goat neighbors next door). This may be the first goats he has seen. My guess, is that he is about a year old. He has some growing to do yet.
He seems to be a picky eater. Likes corn and alfalfa hay, but no piggy pellets, fruits or veggies. Sure would be nice to know what he was used to eating, with his previous owners.
Going to be colder tonight. He has a heat lamp, plenty of straw and a big blanket.
Stay tuned for piggy updates!
Donkey lips!
Yes, I did wipe off the bottle and drink out of it anyway. Less worried about getting germs from them, then going to the store, lol.
Moonpie was enjoying some back scratches from volunteer Ranch hand, Brylon. 😀
Sniff was looking up at the mulberry branches this morning, so I decided to let her try a twig. She seems to like it 😏
Orange Kitty is back!
He showed up at the rescue about a month ago. Since then, he is here for a few days, then disappears for about a week. He is not fixed so....probably out "cat'in" around. 😒
When he showed up in the feed building this morning, I noticed that he was limping. Pulling his left front paw up and not not putting any weight on it. He has always kept his distance from me, so I figured that he would not let me look at his paw. I crouched down and asked him if he would come to me, so I could help him. HE ACTUALLY DID!! I was shocked and took this video. I could not see any bite marks on his paw. My guess is that he might have injured it somehow, jumping out of a tree, or got it caught in something.
I found some liquid Gabapentin and will try to give him a dose of that in some wet food tonight, to help with the pain. Will call vet in the morning.
Goober was feeling his oats today!
