Happy November. We’ve got some yearly vet appointments this month. Mickey (Nanday), Booboo (U2), Joggli (Amazon). These are older birds so they get seen more then once a year.

PART 1: Novelty is considered a strong stimulus for fear reactions in animals. Exposure to environmental enrichment that increases exposure to novelty during development has been used in various species of mammals and birds to help reduce fear responses. For example, in an experiment involving 16 juvenile orange-winged Amazon parrots (Amazona amazonica), researchers found that parrots housed in cages with enrichment were less fearful of novel objects placed in their cages.

Comayo’s first day of targeting…he’s a natural! He is blind in his left eye so I make sure to approach where he can see.

Meet Kiko! She’s an adult blue and gold macaw. She’s quiet as a mouse! Kiko is a nervous girl, but if she likes you she warms up quickly - and treats help! She loves her toys. Wood, skewers with cups/paper plates/crinkle paper/cardboard, you name it! She loves a toy bucket full of wood. She’s a great eater, fresh chop, pellets, and nuts! She doesn’t wander when she’s out, but she likes to be a part of things! She doesn’t mind other birds. Kiko is ready to be adopted!
