Our blood donor, Maverick, stepped up to the plate again to donate blood to a patient that needed his help. The patient receiving the blood transfusion even got to meet his donor prior to undergoing the transfusion. Everyone at NOAH thanks you again Mav for your generous donation!

Let’s talk about itch. Why does itchy pet month awareness month matter? To start off, check out these interesting facts:
- Allergic/atopic dermatitis is the #1 reason dogs are brought in for veterinarian visits.
- 30 million households in the U.S. have a dog with pruritus.
- Almost 8 million dogs go untreated by a veterinarian for itch.
- 36% more itchy dogs were treated by a veterinarian over the past 6 years.
Allergic dermatitis (or skin allergies) can be caused by flea allergy, food allergy, environmental allergy (atopic dermatitis), or contact allergy. Signs of an allergic itch may include: frequent licking/chewing/biting/scratching, excessive rolling/rubbing/scooting, recurrent ear problems, hair loss, body odor, or a rash/redness/greasy skin or scabs. Don’t wait to treat your dog's allergic itch. Talk to one of our veterinarians and learn about treatment options.

Poor, sweet Mo found himself in a pickle while he was out on a walk with his parents. He loves to sniff all around on his walks. Mo told us something just jumped out and bit him right on the nose. Mo’s parents noticed his nose started to swell and called us right away. After his initial treatment, he soon found some really cool doggles! Yes, doggles! Thanks to Brittany, he had a laser treatment to help reduce swelling, inflammation and pain. It can lower the impact the snake venom can have on the tissue. Laser is not a replacement for treatments like antivenom, but it does help the pet heal and feel better faster. Look at how cute he is!

She had to undergo a few different orthopedic surgeries (BIG thanks to Dr. Arnall) to get everything repaired. She has since been adopted by one of our veterinary assistants, Hannah. Jessie has been living her best life since and wishes everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July!

Now that Summer is here, how hot is too hot for little paws on pavement? Pavement can become incredibly hot and can not only cause discomfort, but blisters and/or burns. Typically if you can comfortably place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5-10 seconds, and it is not too hot, it should be safe for your pets little paws.

Take a look at this very tiny eye ulcer. If you look real closely, you can see a green dot towards the middle of the eye. We can detect corneal ulcers with the use of special stains such as fluorescein. All we have to do is place a drop of the stain on the cornea. Then the dye will turn green and adhere to areas of ulceration. Corneal ulcers can be quite painful. Thankfully this baby has already healed up quite nicely!

Someone has got to be missing this sweet boy. Today we got a call that there was a dog trapped in the loft of a barn in Hiawassee. It is believed that he could’ve been trapped for up to seven days. Safe Pet Project jumped into action and sent their volunteers out to rescue this guy. He was brought to us and he was found to be in very good shape for being trapped for some time. Unfortunately , this big guy did not have a microchip so we are hoping someone will recognize him and give us a call at 706 623 6624 or message us on Facebook.

Look at this handsome guy! Imagine having him as your ride or die. All the heads would be turning. Everyone would want to be your friend just to get close to him!!
Timber is a young 2 year old Siberian Husky that is loving and playful. He was found as a stray and was fostered locally but unfortunately, Timber thinks he is too handsome to share the love with other dogs. He needs to be the one and only. He seems to do ok with cats and is great with children.
Call us if you would like like to meet him. 706 624 6624.

Lt. Dan is almost 7 weeks out from an injury that caused his right front leg to lose neuromuscular function. There was a chance amputation was only option, but Safe Pet agreed to give rehab a shot! He has since been living in an awesome foster home Safe Pet Project and coming to see us for rehab twice a week! When we first met Dan, he didn’t have any sensation on any part of his paw, and most certainly couldn’t move it or bear weight on it. Now, he is lifting his leg for “paw” and WALKING on it! He still has a long road to go to get back to normal, but this much progress in such a short time is remarkable for this kind of injury, and we are so excited to see where he goes from here!
Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital (NOAH) was founded in 2018 by Dr. Lynn Stevenson and her husband, Paul Burges. Dr. Stevenson received a Master’s degree in Philosophical Ethics followed by her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. She practiced veterinary medicine at a variety of hospitals, but it had always been her goal to create a dream practice based on her unique philosophy and principles surrounding ethical animal care. That opportunity finally presented itself in the form of a beautiful old church on 7.5 acres in Blairsville, Georgia in early 2018.
At Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital, we blend the latest knowledge, medical and technological advances in the field with true compassion and a local small town vibe. Every patient and client is unique, and we want you to feel welcome when you walk in the door. The dream is for NOAH to be a safe haven for the animals of this community and the people who love them. We practice fear-free medicine and utilize every strategy to make visits as easy and fun as possible for pets and people.
Not only do we provide full service medical care, but we also offer an upscale boarding facility. Features of our pet resort include extra-large canine condos, a feline playroom, large fenced in play yards for individual play, supervised group play, and hiking trails for our boarding dogs.
If you have questions, or simply want to reach out to Dr. Stevenson, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear from you! You can call us at (706) 623-NOAH (6624,) fax- (706) 503-5420, or email for information at: [email protected].
