Mountain Shelter Humane Society was established in 1987 serving the Union and Towns County areas. Our Shelter is a non-profit 501(c) 3 and No-Kill Animal Rescue offering dog and cat adoptions. All adoptable dogs and cats are sterilized, current on appropriate testing, age appropriate vaccines, monthly preventatives, vet care, and grooming before leaving with their forever families. -To prevent cruelty, suffering, and inhumane treatment of all animals.
-To provide for and promote the welfare, protection and humane treatment of all animals.
-To provide custodial care for animals committed to HSMS through the operation of an animal shelter.
-To provide adoption services for animals.
-To cooperate with State and local agencies, as well as private groups, that maybe legally charged with the responsibility of providing for, or who share a common interest, in welfare if animals.
-To educate the community and its citizens in the humane treatment of animals.

Meet Skeenah! ❤️

This adorable pup is the definition of sweetness! Skeenah is a cuddler at heart and loves nothing more than snuggling up with her favorite humans. Skeenah is dog selective, which means that she likes to pick who her friends are. This girl is currently 7 months old, and weighs 30 lbs.

Whether it's playtime or cuddle time, Skeenah is ready to bring endless joy to her forever home! Could that be with you?


All of our available animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Meet Marge! Marge is looking for a loving home with no other dogs. She prefers to keep her people all to herself! She would prefer a quieter home as she is an older girl. She is 7 years old and a whopping 70 pounds! She has spent over 2 years waiting for her furever family! As a puppy he spent about 5 months in animal control. However, he is a very sweet and loving dog who is just in need of a home with lots of patience for his wild ways. Our Story

The Humane Society's Mountain Shelter greets and provides care for over 800 animals each year. The Shelter houses and feeds everyone, keeps them in a healthy safe environment and sees to all their medical needs. A few will find their way back to their original owners and but most are placed for adoption. We need to continue the education of our children on the proper treatment of animals, and they will pay it forward by educating their children. Teaching compassion, spay and neutering to stop over-population and the humane treatment of animals. All dogs and cats in our care are spayed or neutered before they are available for adoption.
