Miss Fae is DEFINITELY Fannie's daughter!

She really took, "the grass is greener on the other side." as a literal interpretation. If this girl doesn't have what she deems abundant forage (grass/hay) in front of her free choice- 24/7, Fae WILL find a way to get out if the 'affront' isn't rectified quickly enough in her opinion... On the plus side, you'll find out where the weak spots in your fencing are, lol!

On a side note - we had just finished replacing all the welded wire with Cattle panels.

So into the, 'Round Pen of Shame' she went... once I got her back inside that is. SMH

She wasn't particularly satisfied to be in the round pen with only flakes of hay, thrown out throughout the day, given while waiting for the scheduled delivery of round bales.

But at least this time, she didn't pull her mom into her shenanigans!

We've been late on introducing, Fijenda - aka. Yenna. She was an unexpected acquisition, but when we saw her ads, we just couldn't resist!

So she made the long trip from, Prince Edward Island, all the way down south to, North Carolina.

Yenna has had several foals for her previous owners. She was never started under saddle but is a nice example for a purebred classic type Knabstrupper and has a lovely trot.

We love her sweet personality. She appreciates attention without being rude about it. She isn't particularly reactive, but despite her age, she can be seen moving/playing with the other mares.

In this picture, we have the two most likely culprits for splashing in the water tank. Can you guess who's the biggest culprit, lol.

We are so grateful to be able to add Fijenda to our breeding program.

Fijenda v. Kreidefels DE 410 (ZfdP) is a 15.3hh 2005 Knabstrupper by Thor af Rottap and out of Florabess v. Kreidefels (Felix DE 304 Knab).

Fijenda is KNN mainbook approved. Awarded 2nd Premium at the 2024 KNN Grading.

She is 6/8 bred which is considered purebred given her age, and while solid, she does carry a copy of the PATN1 gene which is responsible for loud coloration when paired with the Leopard Complex gene. She has a 50% chance of passing on the PATN1 gene.

Farrier came out this morning. The humidity was pretty bad, but the girls did well.

Miss Fae could use some more practice with standing tied for long periods of time. Once she got bored, she tried to keep herself occupied in some not so well behaved (but certainly humorous) ways. She was wiggly, but she didn't really pull on the leadline, and she wasn't too bad while getting trimmed.

Fannie, she also got a bit silly while bored. She acted nervous whenever the farrier used one of his power tools. But she was completely fine if I stood next to her, lol.

Daquiry May (Miss May May) got cushions with her front shoes this time. She had no problem with the hot shoes but wasn't too happy the process of nailing the shoe in. And near the end, she didn't want to put her weight on her bad shoulder and pick up her left hoof. However, after everything was finished, she seemed to be moving slightly better.

I'm really so happy with my farrier. He's patient and knowledgeable. I hope that I'm always in his good graces and that he will be my farrier for a long time to come!

It's National Dog Day!

Before the day ends, we just want to brag about our Pyr mix, Daisy.

Daisy and Daquiry have a special bond. She feels the most content after all the horses have checked in with her through out the day. She will make submissive postures to make the horses comfortable.

Daisy has been like a indulgent and protective second mother to our youngest two goats. And a long suffering mom to the eldest 'horned' pair of goats.

With our newest duck additions, she doesn't bother or even pay much attention to the trio, but she's been particularly vigilant towards any potential aerial predators.

Despite too many humorous and exasperating stories of her wanderings, Daisy has been an instrumental part of our home our safety.

Dogs hold a special place in our heart, and we've had a few wonderful pet dogs over the years, but Daisy is our only current dog, as well as our first working dog. She fulfills the job she was bred for as a livestock guardian dog pretty well for a dog with such a big personality, lol.

The weather has been super hot and ridiculously humid, but the herd has figured out how to beat the heat.

Poor Daquiry is at the bottom of the herd hierarchy now, and she's too wart to try and share the shelter, but fortunately, there are other shady spots, and the girls take turns.

I'll feel more relieved when I can afford to install a few solar fans in the shelter.

Yesterday was really sunny, hot, & humid. But hooves don't care about weather, so the scheduled farrier visit was a necessity.

Three trims, and Daquiry got front shoes. There were some technical difficulties that prevented our farrier from adding the planned cushion, but we could still notice an improvement in her comfort with just the shoes.

However, the additional heat from the farrier's forge didn't do us any favors.

Some of the horses got sponged off to help deal with the heat, and the ducks not only got new cool pool water but also the addition of a few frozen peas to enjoy.

We've got Ducks!πŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦†

Meet Muscovies - George, Martha, & Laura.

Can you tell which pair are siblings? πŸ˜‰

With the biting flies and ticks being so abundant this year, we finally decided it was time to acquire these quiet wood ducks that don't need as much water as traditional ducks, do just as good (if not better) a job at pest control (i.e. - πŸͺ°, 🦟, 🐍, 🦎, 🐁, etc.) as guineafowl, produce eggs much larger and richer than chickens, and are supposedly a delicious meat delicacy.

These young ducks still have a couple of months before they start laying, but we are very excited to have them join us.

Sunny days 🌞 and lots of heat lately.

Fae likes to pull off the mares' flymasks, lol.

The goats like to hang out in the field along with the horses.

Girls got there 'pedicures' yesterday. It was a good time for Knight's Fairytale to practice standing tied.

Fanfare's flymask will back on... just as soon as we can find it!

The flies are really bad this year!

I wanted something more than a regular fly πŸͺ° mask to protect Daquiry's eyes πŸ‘.

All Homozygous Leopard Gene horses are Night Blind. But Homozygous Lp Gene horses are also more susceptible towards uveitis or "Moon Blindness," and light coated horses (like Whiteborns/Homozygous Lp) can be more sensitive to sunlight β˜€οΈ.

So check out Daquiry in her Equivizor !
