Farrier came out this morning. The humidity was pretty bad, but the girls did well.

Miss Fae could use some more practice with standing tied for long periods of time. Once she got bored, she tried to keep herself occupied in some not so well behaved (but certainly humorous) ways. She was wiggly, but she didn't really pull on the leadline, and she wasn't too bad while getting trimmed.

Fannie, she also got a bit silly while bored. She acted nervous whenever the farrier used one of his power tools. But she was completely fine if I stood next to her, lol.

Daquiry May (Miss May May) got cushions with her front shoes this time. She had no problem with the hot shoes but wasn't too happy the process of nailing the shoe in. And near the end, she didn't want to put her weight on her bad shoulder and pick up her left hoof. However, after everything was finished, she seemed to be moving slightly better.

I'm really so happy with my farrier. He's patient and knowledgeable. I hope that I'm always in his good graces and that he will be my farrier for a long time to come!

It's National Dog Day!

Before the day ends, we just want to brag about our Pyr mix, Daisy.

Daisy and Daquiry have a special bond. She feels the most content after all the horses have checked in with her through out the day. She will make submissive postures to make the horses comfortable.

Daisy has been like a indulgent and protective second mother to our youngest two goats. And a long suffering mom to the eldest 'horned' pair of goats.

With our newest duck additions, she doesn't bother or even pay much attention to the trio, but she's been particularly vigilant towards any potential aerial predators.

Despite too many humorous and exasperating stories of her wanderings, Daisy has been an instrumental part of our home our safety.

Dogs hold a special place in our heart, and we've had a few wonderful pet dogs over the years, but Daisy is our only current dog, as well as our first working dog. She fulfills the job she was bred for as a livestock guardian dog pretty well for a dog with such a big personality, lol.

The weather has been super hot and ridiculously humid, but the herd has figured out how to beat the heat.

Poor Daquiry is at the bottom of the herd hierarchy now, and she's too wart to try and share the shelter, but fortunately, there are other shady spots, and the girls take turns.

I'll feel more relieved when I can afford to install a few solar fans in the shelter.

Yesterday was really sunny, hot, & humid. But hooves don't care about weather, so the scheduled farrier visit was a necessity.

Three trims, and Daquiry got front shoes. There were some technical difficulties that prevented our farrier from adding the planned cushion, but we could still notice an improvement in her comfort with just the shoes.

However, the additional heat from the farrier's forge didn't do us any favors.

Some of the horses got sponged off to help deal with the heat, and the ducks not only got new cool pool water but also the addition of a few frozen peas to enjoy.

We've got Ducks!πŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦†

Meet Muscovies - George, Martha, & Laura.

Can you tell which pair are siblings? πŸ˜‰

With the biting flies and ticks being so abundant this year, we finally decided it was time to acquire these quiet wood ducks that don't need as much water as traditional ducks, do just as good (if not better) a job at pest control (i.e. - πŸͺ°, 🦟, 🐍, 🦎, 🐁, etc.) as guineafowl, produce eggs much larger and richer than chickens, and are supposedly a delicious meat delicacy.

These young ducks still have a couple of months before they start laying, but we are very excited to have them join us.

Fae likes to pull off the mares' flymasks, lol.

The goats like to hang out in the field along with the horses.

I wanted something more than a regular fly πŸͺ° mask to protect Daquiry's eyes πŸ‘.

All Homozygous Leopard Gene horses are Night Blind. But Homozygous Lp Gene horses are also more susceptible towards uveitis or "Moon Blindness," and light coated horses (like Whiteborns/Homozygous Lp) can be more sensitive to sunlight β˜€οΈ.

Knight's Fairytale has come back from her kindergarten program and consignment at Trinity Appaloosa Farm.

We can't say enough positive things about Tracy & Bron. And we are so grateful to have found them when we did. They have been so gracious and helpful throughout the whole process.

'Fae' loaded and unloaded from the trailer with ease and displayed perfect manners while being led to her paddock.

In true Knabstrupper fashion, she's settling back in without much fuss.

She's such a lovely girl that we really don't regret bringing her back home.

Knight's Fairytale is coming home in a couple days because her buyer backed out after signing the sales contract.

She'll likely be off the market once she comes home, so this is the last call for interested parties.

We will be making it our policy moving forward that there will be no appointments booked, by us or by a potential buyer, for travel papers without the horse first being paid for in full. We have not ever had this issue before. But, our time, and our relationship with our long-term vet, who we very much respect, is not something we want to waste on clearing our schedules out to be met with last-minute changes of mind.

In other news, Knight's Fairytale, coming 2 year old KNN filly, is still available for a few days more until she has to return home. If you are interested, this is truly a last chance to purchase her while she is here. This filly has a stupendous personality, bloodlines, conformation, and gaits! Contact us for more information.

Introducing our small spotted mascots!
🐐🐐🐐🐐

Lucy & Ethel - twins and Nubian crosses (with Boer & Spanish).

Laverne & Shirley - half sisters and Boer crosses (one out of a Spanish doe, the other out of a Lamancha/Alpine doe).

These doelings are super friendly and hardy. We've got dapples, moonspots, & marble coloring - We've got a 'thing' for spots!😁 πŸ˜‰

When visitors come to see our Knabstruppers, they will first be greeted by the sound of our caprine mascots. Visitors are welcome to pet and feed our goats, and their kids will be available in 2025 on our future homesteading page. πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸŒΎ

Due to a glitch, it took us a while to get the test results back from the vet, but we finally have the color results back on the fillies!πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

As we suspected, Knight's Fairytale is homozygous for the Leopard complex with no PATN1. 😊

Her full results are: Ee Aa LPLP [PATN1 Neg]

Fairytale can produce Black, Bay, and Chestnut base coats and will always pass on a single copy of the Leopard gene- but for loudly expressed spots, it would be best if she were bred to a stallion with at least one PATN1 gene.

On a more surprising note, it turns out that Knight's Caipirinha not only has 2 copies of the Black basecoat gene but also carries 2 copies of the Leopard complex gene - This means that Caipirinha is also Homozygous for Leopard complex!!!πŸ˜ƒ

Her full results are: EE Aa LPLP [PATN1 Neg]

Caipirinha can't produce those redheads (Sorrel/Chestnut). Her foals will be either Bay or Black, but she will always pass on a single copy of the Leopard complex gene. For loudly expressed spots, it would be best if she were bred to a stallion with at least one PATN1 gene.

It's likely due to her dark basecoat and lack of PATN1 causing a greater suppression of spots, but Caipirinha is actually a snowcap, just like her half-sister.πŸ₯³

Color Genetics sure are interesting 😁

Seemingly overnight, Rini has a lot more roaning throughout her coat and seems to be developing more snowflake spots in addition to her lace blanket.

Can you believe that both of these yearling Knabstrupper fillies by 70-day tested stallion, Colorado Skrodstrup are still here?!?

Knight's Fairytale (Colorado SkrΓΈdstrup x Fanfare de Bec) is 10/16ths pure blood-bay snowcap filly that was awarded 1st Premium, 9 (Type), 8 (Overall), Sports type with the KNN/Motherbook as a foal. Her movements are nice & light. Fairytale has also shown an inclination for jumping. She's friendly, intelligent, and relatively calm. Amateur friendly bloodlines on both sides. Still waiting on results, but color phenotype is homozygous for the Leopard complex gene.

Knight's Caipirinha (Colorado SkrΓΈdstrup x Daquiry May von Kobold) is seal/black-bay snowflake blanket and a rare 14/16ths pure filly. Awarded Best Foal, 1st Premium, 9 (Type), and 8 (Overall) as a Purebred Classic type foal. She has a nice walk & trot with an uphill canter. With her baroque influenced conformation, her movement can be flashy or collected in the Dressage ring. She's on the hotter side of the two, but is overall cooperative, playful, and friendly. Rare bloodlines in North America. Still waiting on the results, but coat phenotype suggests heterozygous for Leopard Complex gene and no PATN1 gene.

Reasonable offers in the low πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯• welcome.

Located in NC (just south of Danville, VA).

It's neat to see how the leopard complex (plus modifiers) gene is uniquely expressed and developed over the years in these spotted horses.

Subtle changes over a year's time. It's a mystery how much Caipirinha will roan out over the decades - What an exciting prospect!

The fillies will be officially 12 months old this month.

Rini was weaned much later than Fae (March vs. October), and I wonder if that's why she seemed to be thriving over her sportier half-sister; who's going through a particularly gawky stage. If circumstances would've allowed, Fae would have been weaned later as well.

The girls are almost done shedding out their winter coat. Both have roaned out a bit, but the roaning seems more prevalent on Rini.

As you might be able to tell from the photos below, these fillies are quite friendly and inquisitive, with Rini actually being the hotter/more opinionated of the two despite her higher percentage/purebred Knabbie status.

The girls got their spring vaccinations and coggins pulled, along with hair samples pulled for testing a few days ago.

Hoping to get updated photos & videos of them soon.
