What started out as a very sad situation ended in a happy ending. Today a woman in Lockport brought a cat to our shelter who was hanging around her house for two days. She has cats in her home and this cat was trying to get inside. She told us the cat was in rough shape and boy oh boy she was not wrong! When our vet staff took the cat from the carrier we were all shocked. Fur was missing all over his body and the cat was way too skinny and dehydrated. The staff also noticed the cat could not hear. In looking at its teeth they estimated the male cat to be very old as possibly even 20 years. The cat’s vein was hard to get so they could not even draw blood to do any bloodwork and would try at a later time.
They checked for a microchip and it came back with an owner. Our team contacted the owner and yes this was his sick cat who had escaped from the house a few days ago. The man had adopted the cat when he was a teenager and he said the cat was now over 15 years of age. It turns out they had taken the cat to their vet a few days ago as the cat was having a problem with its ear. They found the cat had a growth in his ear which turned out to be a poly causing him to lose hearing in his ear. It was at this time their vet diagnosed him as having lymphoma. The vet shaved him in spots as he was matted and sent the cat home to be in Hospice care. It was at that time the vet told his owner his cat did not have much longer to live.
The cat’s name is Ramirez and the owner Nicholas adopted him from the NCSPCA when the cat was one years old. From their vet the cat is on lots of meds and actually had escaped their house on Thursday. Nicholas said the cat with his age and condition cannot walk very well so it figured that the cat actually did not walk very far when it was found.
The owner was so happy we had Ramirez and that he was found safe. The wonders of microchipping your cat! Once again microchipping is so important to reunite lost and found pets!
Our shelter staff was thrilled to reunite Nicholas and Jen back with the cat they have loved all these many years. Sadly Ramirez doesn’t have much longer to live with his severe condition. We know the time he does have is with someone he has known his whole cat life. Ramirez we hope your time left is pain free and that you can enjoy your last few weeks or months knowing you are very wanted and loved. We were happy Ten Lives Club was once again there to help and that this story ended well.

We were so excited at our Ten Lives Club cat shelter as “Tita” our ten year old diabetic cat went to her “forever” home today! Tita came to us as a personal surrender as her owner passed away. Tita was in our shelter care for a few months as with her older age and being diabetic sadly no one was interested in adopting her. Tita has been on many of our facebook posts and even on local TV hoping someone would consider adopting her. Until our hero Nancy, from Tonawanda, saw her pictures and story and decided to bring Tita into her home and family. Nancy already has a diabetic cat which she gives insulin shots to three times a day. Tita receives insulin shots once a day. Tita’s adoption fee was sponsored by Christa who really wanted to see Tita go into a new home. A big, big thank you to Nancy for adopting this sweet little girl into her heart and home and to Christa who paid her adoption fee.
Here’s to a happy new life for Tita! So many people wish to adopt a kitten and we so appreciate when some wish an older cat or especially a special needs cat as our Tita is! As her new owner Nancy was on the floor with her Tita was already rubbing her little tabby face onto her marking her as her new owner! We love happy endings!

Congratulations Officer Dobbs on placing 1️⃣st in the Searching for WNY’s Finest Photo Contest!

Officer Dobbs is a proud member of the NFTA Transit Authority Police Department. She protects and serves her community as a strong addition with the TAPD’s Traffic Unit.

Officer Dobbs enjoys attending concerts and spending time with her family. After her shift, she looks forward to coming home to her 3-year-old French Bulldog, Archie, who is normally waiting for her!

Officer Dobbs will be on the cover of the 2025 Police, Firefighters & Rescue Animal Calendar!

Thank you to Sweet Buffalo and Buffalo RiverWorks for having us at this great event! We had a lot of fun and got one kitty a home! All of the kittens you see posted have made their way to their new home Ten Lives Club at the Walden Galleria. Snowbrook the sweet tabby went back to the lobby at the main shelter and is ready to find his furever home.

Ten Lives Club has had a busy day! We were at two major adoption/fundraising events today. Pictured is the “Cause For Paws” Pet Expo held at Williamsville Lehigh Valley Depot. We have done this event for a few years now and a big thank you to Brenda who helps organize this event and gets the many vendors to attend. Just with vendors today we raised $500 in vendor fees. We had one adoption of a kitten at the event. With theme baskets and merchandise over $300 was raised! Thank you to volunteers Brenda, Char, Ken, Jan and Jeff who worked this event to make it all happen! 👍💕😺👏❤️😋

Sweet Sunshine is a 2 year old male who currently resides in our upstairs lobby, free roaming. Due to some healing wounds on his neck from being outside, Sunshine constantly itches at his neck and body. He has also been over grooming, requiring him to need to wear an uncomfortable cone. A dear friend of TLC who was visiting from Florida noticed Sunshine’s discomfort and decided to personally buy him a onesie! We will be sure to update you all with photos of him wearing his new onesie once it arrives ❤️

Our sweet boy, Delinquent, finally went to a loving furever home this past Tuesday, June 18th! Delinquent, 1 year old male, was adopted by Nathan and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Nathan actually loved the name, which made him want to adopt Delinquent more! He will be the only kitty in his new home with lots of room to wander and play ❤️
