❄️ For less intense activities with your dogs, here are tips to keep them safe in winter. ❄️

They can’t tell you what’s wrong, so watch for small signs of discomfort that could lead to bigger issues:

- Check Paws: Inspect and clean your dog’s paws after being outside to remove snow, frost, or cuts. Trim long hair between paw pads to prevent ice buildup.

-Protect Paws: Use winter booties or paw wax to shield paws from snow, ice, and cold.

-Dress Warm: Outfit your dog with a warm coat or vest for added protection.

-Keep Leashed: Maintain control with a leash, as scents are harder to detect in the snow. Ensure your dog has an ID tag or microchip.

-Know Limits: Be mindful of your dog’s tolerance for cold temperatures.

-Wind Protection: Use a blind or wind block when hunting to keep your dog sheltered.

-Avoid Water: Minimize your dog’s time in water during winter.

-Land Activity: Throw bumpers on land to keep your dog active and warm.

-Avoid Ice: Do not allow your dog to walk on ice to retrieve items.

❄️🐾 As the snow begins to fall, keeping our pets safe and cozy becomes a top priority! 🐾❄️

Winter brings unique challenges for our furry friends, from freezing temperatures to icy conditions. Let’s make sure they stay warm, healthy, and happy all season long!

To keep your gun dog safe and healthy during cold weather, there are several important considerations:

-Nutrition: A high-fat diet can help dogs maintain energy and stay warm during winter. Adding a little weight before the cold season provides insulation. Enhance your dog's kibble by adding warm water or a palatable additive to ensure they eat enough during strenuous activities.

-Hydration: Even in cold weather, proper hydration is essential for digestion and temperature regulation. Offer small amounts of water frequently during activity and ensure fresh water is always accessible when resting.

-Warm Housing: Provide a draft-free, insulated dog house with dry bedding. The house should be just big enough for the dog to move comfortably and should have a door facing away from prevailing winds to block cold drafts. Travel kennels should also be dry and clean.

-Activity Management: Avoid overexerting your dog in extreme cold, and ensure they have proper rest and recovery time. For long hunting trips, schedule breaks and offer small snacks to keep energy up

By focusing on proper diet, hydration, and shelter, you can ensure your gun dog stays healthy and performs well throughout the cold months.
