‼️ Important update to our hours this weekend! We are doing our very best to find the staff to be open and serve our community. We hate being closed just as much as you all do. We are asking for your patience as we navigate this difficult time.

Tonight our very own Dr Burks went and taught medical training to our McLean County and Bloomington canine deputy handlers! This is a great opportunity for our handlers to stay up to date on different protocols to ensure safety so they can better serve our community. 🚔👮🏼‍♀️👮🏼‍♂️🐶 We thankful for Dr Burks and this opportunity!

Ma*****na toxicity in dogs and cats

Dogs and cats can be affected by THC(ma*****na) by ingesting it directly or secondhand smoke. Dogs are affected by ma*****na more so than humans due to the way they process the drug compared to humans. It only takes a small amount to cause toxicity in dogs and cats. Exposure is often due to the curious nature of dogs or being in the same room as a person smoking it. It is important to know if your pet had exposure from inhalation or by ingesting. The level of toxicity can range in differences between pets because just like people it affects everyone differently. There are multiple signs of ma*****na toxicity in pets, but some of the common symptoms are hyperactivity or sleepy, disoriented or very vocal, vomiting, and some may experience dribbling of urine.

If you think your pet may have been exposed to ma*****na please call the ASPCA Poison Control line at 888-426-4435, and seek medical attention immediately.

What is your position at AEC?
- I am a veterinary assistant, training coordinator, and social media coordinator
How long have you been at AEC?
- I have been at AEC for 1.5 years
How long have you been in vet med?
- I have been in veterinary medicine for 12.5 years.
Are you in school? If so, what are you working toward?
- I am in school working toward getting my CVT license. I am a Purdue student.
How many animals do you have and who are they?
- I have a zoo. I have a horse named Roo, a chocolate lab named Diarrhea, but we call her Ria for short🤭😉(just kidding. Her name is Ria), and two cats named Binx and Mazikeen.
What is your favorite food?
- I love a good steak
What do you like to do in your free time?
- In my free time I love to sleep, spend time at the farm with Roo and Ria, playing fetch with Ria, or working. I love to stay busy.
