Mittens was found by his current owner outside a business in the rain. At only 5 weeks old he was malnourished, weak and suffered a broken humorous. A few days after his initial exam he gained enough strength for Dr. Cody to amputate his front leg. Post surgery the owners report he is getting around well, has regained his appetite, and is soaking up snuggles. His youngest owner has even been giving him rides due to his “flat tire”. 😆 This kitty is so lucky to have found this loving family and we were happy to be a part of his recovery story. ❤️🐈‍⬛

This is Winston! He is recovering peacefully from his neuter and gastropexy. A gastropexy is a surgery where the stomach is tacked to the body wall. We recommend gastropexy surgery for large, deep-chested dog breeds to prevent a life-threatening emergency called gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV) or “bloat.” This is where a dog’s stomach flips and causes the body to have severe systemic inflammation, shock, and even death. GDV requires life-saving emergency surgery and intensive after-surgery care. Signs of GDV are restlessness, retching or gagging, weakness, and abdominal distension. We are so glad Winston can say that GDV is the least of his worries now! ❤️

Yesterday marked our 7 year anniversary of opening Furry Friends Veterinary Hospital. So many things have changed as we have grown, but it is still true that we would not be able to help your furry friends without our community’s acceptance, trust, recommendations and kindness. Tessie presented to us recently for severe limping on her right hind limb. Her physical exam showed a suspected cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) tear. This is similar to an ACL tear in humans. Our doctors can sometimes diagnose this based on a positive “cranial drawer” sign in the knee on physical exam. X-rays showed a cranially displaced tibia and some knee swelling that confirmed the diagnosis of a torn CrCL. Tessie’s owner elected to have surgery done here at Furry Friends in order to stabilize the knee. This surgery is called a lateral suture or an extra capsular repair, one of the few ways to treat a torn CrCL. Post-surgery X-rays have also been attached. Two of our doctors here at Furry Friends can do the procedure! Great job today, Tessie! We look forward to seeing your recovery journey. 🦴🐶

Bo is a sweet 10 year-old dog who presented for vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. An abdominal ultrasound showed an irregular thickening of his cecum with some gas distension. An abdominal exploratory surgery was then performed where we found a tumor in his cecum. Biopsy of this area unfortunately came back as large cell lymphoma. Bo recovered well from his surgery, and chemotherapy was quickly initiated here at Furry Friends. Bo is doing great with his chemo and living the happiest life with his wonderful owners. We see Bo twice every 3 weeks for blood work and chemotherapy and he is an absolute joy to have here every time. We love you, Bo! And we are so proud of you❤️

It’s always a great day when we get to start our day with a litter of fluffy puppies 🐶 Our sweet patient, Pearl, had 5 healthy puppies who all came in for their 6 week exam and vaccines (and photoshoot) today 📸

Prince is a sweet cat who we recently did surgery on to correct his severe re**us abdominis diastasis (separation of the abdominal wall muscles). His weakened abdominal wall led to an obstructive post renal azotemia (kidney disease caused by urinary obstruction). He did great under anesthesia and is now back home recovering with his wonderful family.

At Furry Friends, we sure love our brachycephalic (shmoosh-nosed) breeds, but did you know there are procedures that can be done to help them breathe easier? Merle came in with “stenotic nares,” which means his nostrils are more narrow than they should be. We did a nares repair on him and now he can show off his new nose job 🐶🥰

Meet Henry and Bean! They came in for their first kitten exams and vaccines and quickly turned into celebrities in the treatment area. They got to enjoy some cat treats during their low-stress, fear-free blood draws 🐱 Who doesn’t love a good pair of kitten brothers?

This is Cricket at 3 different puppy appointments over the past few months. She is almost done with all her puppy vaccines and her confidence is at an all-time high! It’s a pleasure watching your sweet pups grow before our very eyes 🐶💕

Earlier this week Dr. Cody and his dog Izzy were invited to do vet day at a local preschool. He shared cases and talked about animal wellness care with future veterinarians.😉 Izzy got lots of love and was living her best life.

Henry was in today for his suture removal 2 weeks post CrCL (ACL) repair. He’s recovering beautifully and is doing great using his surgically repaired knee!

Dr. Cody’s dog Izzy was one of our first patients to receive an injection of Librela for her osteoarthritis. Prior to this treatment she would stop and look at the stairs like she was trying to decide if it was worth the trip. One week after her first dose, she is going up and down without any concerns. If your dog has trouble getting around like Izzy did, call us to ask about Librela, a once monthly monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment.

Captain was in today for his suture removal 2 weeks post Cranial Cruciate Ligament repair (ACL/ knee surgery). He’s doing great and is looking awesome per usual:)

Ellie was in for her suture removal from her CrCL (ACL) repair 10 days ago. She is still taking it easy but she’s comfortable and recovering beautifully:)
